Do you like hurting demons?
GET THE WAD HERE
0.2.0 is now out! Now featuring all the monsters converted into upgraded variants balanced around the mod, along with new guns! Woo!
THE STORY SO FAR
You are a member of the UAC Asset Removal Division, or ARD. Behind this bland acronym is what effectively serves as the UAC's primary method of dealing with demonic influence before it can take root - which is universally done using the liberal use of ballistic and energy weaponry - which "removes strategic assets" very effectively. You get good pay, free medical care, and access to cutting edge technology - but the price for all that when it comes to hell's ceaseless assault on the mortal world - your neck is first on the chopping block.
Obligatory notice: THIS MOD DOES NOT PULL PUNCHES.
An imp's fire hits as hard as a vanilla baron, and basic shotgunners can oneshot you with poor luck. Luckily, your weapons are just as lethal, if not even more so - and a low monster count and tight quarters leans towards maps being played up close and aggressive. Everyone is a glass cannon, basically. Different weapons are more effective against different enemies - for example, buckshot won't do much against body armor, but punches demon flesh full of holes. Experiment - see what tactics work best for you. There's also an automap powerup in each level that effectively works as a permanent IDDT cheat, allowing you to know where enemies are without opening a door and getting filled with lead.
Currently, the WAD contains Four levels and a WIP level 0 that serves as a guide on the very basic mechanics, some of which are listed above. It'll become a hub level eventually. Also, all of doom's basic guns are modified to fit the damage types of the mod, along with 3 BFG slot weapons.
The idea of a hotline miami inspired wad had been rattling around in my head for years now, and after a good six months of work I am happy to finally publish it! It's my first foray into full on modding (I made a vanilla wad in the past), and I'm very happy with the result. I couldnt have done it alone, though, here are the credits to assets used and other things that helped me along the way:
- Marine Sprites are from DBJ87's "Allied Marines Pack" on Realm667
- Midis are from various sources, usually edited by me to sound better in the doom soundfont.
- Scanner Map Code was based on Captain Toenail's Realm667 "Megamap"
- The Hitscanner projectile code is based on DawnBreez's "BulletZ" hitscan replacement mod
- The Keepers of the Zdoom Wiki for trying their hardest to make it easy to do what I'm doing
- All the developers of Ultimate Doom Builder, Slade 3, and of course, ZDoom.
- And my friend, who helped playtest this jankfest.
