PBR and Parallax maps for vanilla Doom Textures (WIP)

For high-res texture/sprite projects, sprite-fix patches, music add-ons, music randomizers, and other graphic/sound-only projects.

PBR and Parallax maps for vanilla Doom Textures (WIP)

This mod has been started with mporbes set of normal and displacement maps as basis, and my intention is to give the original low resolution pixelated Doom textures PBR surface properties with parallax effect.

Since Doom doesn't have "lighting" only GZDoom's dynamic lights that may appear in lamps or projectiles will show the effect in any given surface. Texture relief (parallax) on the other hand is independent of it, so the effect is always apparent. I hope that If one day RTX or any dynamic/baked lighting technique gives the maps light data for the textures to really show themselves, the PBR map for that will be there.


I work on this in the spare time I can get, my first goal would be to complete all textures found in the shareware episode 1 Knee-Deep in the Dead. You can already check out the current state of the project as it is right now if you want:

Requirements:
PBR is supported natively by GZDoom, but for Parallax you will need a parallax shader, this one is pretty good: viewtopic.php?t=62104


I would also recommend these mods to make the materials more noticeable:

Relighting Doom v3.31b

I've been hoping for so long that someone would do this. I really like the effect of combining PBR and parallax maps with chunky low-res textures and was hoping someone would do that for Doom. I've seen so many upscaling projects, and I just want shiny things that preserve the grit. Great work so far!

I'm all for preserving the grit! I'm hoping further development of GZDoom and/or graphics mods come to fill the gaps for a fancier yet still classic looking improvement on the visuals.
