SSG available in Doom1

Post by Hirogen2 »

Hi,

when I load the attached PWAD with Doom 1, the Super Shotgun is available out
of the void!

Whether or not a weapon is available is determined by whether or not it has graphics available. It isn't important if the graphic has actual content or not. This is not a bug.

Yeah well it was not about the content of the graphics but I thought it is hardcoded in the Doom/Heretic/Hexen code parts which weapons are available. I might be wrong, reading mostly-unknown source is hard.

If that were the case, then all these mods that have been done recently allowing weapons from one game in another would not have been possible.

If you were really bored you could put all the monster sprites and the SSG in Doom and make a level for Ultimate Doom with all the Doom2 things.

Heh! I already did that a few months ago. But it was a scrappy map just to test the principle.

I was planning on doing another one for release. I had in mind a map that was basically an Ep1 map (as in totally Ep1, nothing fancy at all - at least for a start), but at some point (about 3/4 of the way through) you enter a room. A moving camera orbits around a supershotgun on a plinth as some glorious music plays. Once the cutscene is finished you get to pick up the SSG, and then all hell breaks lose. Maybe a Hell Knight ambush or something, but the last 1/4 of the map was going to be mainly Doom2 enemies. That would have upset the Ep1 purists :P

But, you've let the cat out of the bag now, so that gives me an excuse not to do it. :)
