Lunar Strike (WIP build style sci-fi map set)

Post by ReformedJoe »

1999: The Polaris Lunar outpost has fallen.

You hear the rumble of the escape shuttle as it takes off carrying a few battered survivors back to dubious safety on earth.
Reality sets in. You're the last of the security team now. Escape is no longer possible. Only one course of action remains, one duty unfulfilled.

Deny the enemy control of the facility.

What's this?

As a sort of mapping exercise I've been making a sci fi map set balanced around a specific gameplay mod (NeoCore).

The objective is a somewhat grounded, 'realistic' depiction of a lunar outpost with an emphasis on semi linear exploration. Combat encounters are intended to be approachable from different angles, and don't necessarily have one optimal solution.

While it's being built with NeoCore in mind, it will also work with any other gameplay mod (I'm especially trying to keep a fair Hideous Destructor experience in mind).

Anyway, here's some stuff to look at:

I must say, damn good stuff sir.

This looks right up my street. I love sci-fi/tech maps and realistic environments and this looks stunning.

In that first screenshot, are the lights on the wall dynamic lights, or is that directly drawn on the texture? The lighting in these shots looks fantastic!

I suspect a little from column A and a little from column B.

Yep, in that specific instance the texture has lights baked onto it.

The lighting is totally dynamic, with some small exceptions. That was another objective with this project.

I should also mention that a lot of attention is being given to props and other shootable stuff. Making a breakable computer screen or window is pretty trivial with the system I have set up.

Nice! With that title I wasn't expecting that level of detail, but this looks exciting. I thought it was going to be a spiritual successor to Lunar.wad.

You definitely nailed that "lived-in" look that Build engine games are known for. Looks killer.

I might hit you up soon if you're still interested. I'm very very bad at HDest.

More generally, if anyone is interested in testing this let me know in this thread or via PM.

I can test as well, and can tell you how it does on a mid to lower end machine at minimum. Totally love map styles like this.

I'm definitely interested in testing for HDest, I'm not the greatest at HDest but I've played heaps of it.
