It seems the crash only occurs when the new renderer is toggled on:

Mhh, just played with latest git and i din't get any crash, so maybe the bug was fixed in the meanwhile... try with some devbuild.
On the other hand, i noticed that the train doesn't explode at the beginning of the level

You're right.
I tried the raze-x64-1.1.0pre-697-g5dfaf534c build, and it runs absolutely stable (well done /new render).
And the train explodes as intended.

Played with 728 on windows, the train explodes; 728 on linux, it doesn't... i guess it's another linux "quirk"
anyway, no crash whatsoever so i assume that the bug was fixed somehow.

Recompiled yesterday, now the train explodes correctly
