Chocolate Doom mod on PSP?
I hope this is a suitable board for this. I have DOOM LEGACY running on my PSP GO and it's fine playing DOOM, DOOM2 and FINAL DOOM. But I'm having trouble getting a doom mod I recently downloaded to work. The MOD is D4V (DOOM 4 Vanilla) and seems to use Chocolate Doom primarily, maybe Crispy Doom as well but I think that's optional. It seems to work in DOS box, but I can't seem to get it to work on my PSP properly. It is promoted as being "vanilla compatible", unyet when I load it into PSP LEGACY, the gun shots have no sound and no music plays.
It also has doesn't boot up on my modded Original Xbox, despite vanilla doom mod working fine on that. This is a game I really want to experience in full, and on the go if possible. Can someone help me out? I want to get this mod running on my PSP and (as a secondary option) my original modded XBOX.
Thanks in advance.

Doom Legacy isn't the most compatible port by any stretch of the word; its implementation of Dehacked was always kind of buggy and incomplete (to the point where even stuff like Aliens TC doesn't quite work right). Does the Xbox Doom port even support DEH patches?

I'm actually not sure, but it runs a lot of vanilla wads ok. The PSP Gos Legacy port seems to run the same ones but with sound errors and crashes. Sometimes the same thing happens on the xbox version. Not sure what I can do about it.wildweasel wrote:Doom Legacy isn't the most compatible port by any stretch of the word; its implementation of Dehacked was always kind of buggy and incomplete (to the point where even stuff like Aliens TC doesn't quite work right). Interestingly, both can play the demo of my vanilla style game DMT but with the same error on both. Very slowed down sounds for guns and enemies. I really dont get it.

Re: Chocolate Doom mod on PSP?
Please for the love of Christ can someone help me out here. I've tried EVERYTHING to get this mod working on my Xbox Original with DOOM X. It runs EVERY other vanilla mod fine, but this one crashes every single time at this screen. (see screenshot).
This is a custom of D4V which includes MP3 music, and all textures from DOOM 2 added into the D4V wad. I did this to prevent the wad needing DOOM 2 and acting as a patch of sorts.. All resources are inside the wad.
I've even tried removing all the GZDOOM support inside the wad to help it along, but still nothing. What am I doing wrong? Why does it keep crashing here? Please help, I've spent two days on it now and I think I'm going mad.
Thank you so much in advance.

Unfortunately, the console log there doesn't show any error messages. I don't know anything about that particular Doom port, but it appears it's at least getting through loading the images correctly.
I have a thought, though. What happens if you remove the mp3 music?

PSP Legacy is old bones, given D4V, it may use something that Legacy, despite claiming Vanilla compatibility, cannot recognize.Hidden Hands wrote:Please for the love of Christ can someone help me out here. DoomX is based on DoomDC (https://www.gamebrew.org/wiki/Doom-X_XBOX) so i expect to behave rather finicky around recent Vanilla works, more so than PSP Legacy.
There is one other custom Doom Xbox port, called DC27 DOOOM. I have it in my TODO queue for the DoomWiki. It is based on ChocoDoom.
- Please try that port to see if it works on Doom Xbox.
Regarding PSP: I still have a PSP with the latest Legacy lying around. If need be, i could give it a look if you PM me the works. Perhaps i can make a bit more heads or tails from the error's and so help Graf out.
Lastly: It might be wise to contact the author of D4V to detail what he did to keep it in Vanilla.

Linguica provided assistance on D4V, so odds are it basically uses every part of the buffalo, so to speak.Redneckerz wrote:Lastly: It might be wise to contact the author of D4V to detail what he did to keep it in Vanilla.

This is indeed what i fear aswell. If its all 100% vanilla, its better to go ChocoDoom.Kinsie wrote:Linguica provided assistance on D4V, so odds are it basically uses every part of the buffalo, so to speak.Redneckerz wrote:Lastly: It might be wise to contact the author of D4V to detail what he did to keep it in Vanilla.
Or, for something more obscure: Doom Vanille, a port of Linux Doom to DOS with some important bugfixes.

Which would be great for an actual DOS system, but not for a PlayStation Portable or an Xbox.Redneckerz wrote:This is indeed what i fear aswell. Precisely. In that case he is out of luck (If its pure vanilla stuff.) and we can chalk it as incompatible with the PSP Legacy/Doom X ports.wildweasel wrote: Which would be great for an actual DOS system, but not for a PlayStation Portable or an Xbox.
But perhaps DC27 works.

Thanks for these replies. I couldn't get it working on the xbox or psp at all. It either crashes or just doesn't boot at all. I was surprised, i really thought vanilla meant it would be truly... vanilla.

Did you try the options listed above?Hidden Hands wrote:Thanks for these replies. I couldn't get it working on the xbox or psp at all. It either crashes or just doesn't boot at all. I was surprised, i really thought vanilla meant it would be truly... vanilla.
Did you attempt to contact the original author of D4V about this?

It is not something i am making. There is no released build, but the earlier Github page in the thread gives you exact instructions how to set it up.Hidden Hands wrote:I've been trying to get that DC27 Doom but cant seem to find a download. Is it something you're making?

Ok, I'll have a look at how to do that then. No release build is why I was not sure what was up. Ok, I'll see if I can do it. Thank you.Redneckerz wrote:It is not something i am making.
