unsupported openal implementation???

Hi.
I'm trying to play Brutal Doom black edition but theres no sound.
If I click "restart sound" in "sound options" I get a message "you are using an unsupported openal implementation"
I dl the latest openal and ran it but I still get the same problem.
I would appreciate all help I could get!Let me know if theres any more info I can post.

You should only use the OpenAL Soft version that is included with the GZDoom download. The official version that is still available is very old and unsupported. GZDoom requires OpenAL Soft.

What happens if you reinstall GZDoom to a new directory - EXE, DLL files, and everything, with no INI files at all - and run the mod from that one?
