Contrary to popular belief, we are not all-knowing-all-seeing magical beings!

If you want help you're going to have to provide lots of info. Like what is your hardware, what is your operating system, what version of GZDoom/LZDoom/whatever you're using, what mods you're loading, how you're loading it, what you've already tried for fixing the problem, and anything else that is even remotely relevant to the problem.

We can't magically figure out what it is if you're going to be vague, and if we feel like you're just wasting our time with guessing games we will act like that's what you're really doing and won't help you.

ZDoom's minimum system requirements?

Post by xzotikk »

Hey, so I just got back into Dooming and I was thinking about downloading ZDoom. But my PC is very weak, (It only has 64mb of vram.) so I before I download ZDoom I want to know the minimum system requirements. (For ZDoom not GZDoom or QZDoom.)

btw. Sorry for my bad English.

Best regards. Adam

With 64 MB of VRAM you may be able to play with ZDoom 2.8.1. There's no chance to run current GZDoom on that at all, you may get lucky if you try an older version from the 1.8.x series.

Signatures are disabled on this forum because most people find them irritating. (Also, you've forgotten to log in when making this post.)

No, it's not.

That's his custom title + assigned title. He has a custom title that relates to his avatar, and he has an assigned title (which normal users cannot assign) that relates to what he does on the forum. Having assigned titles is rare on this forum, it requires an administrator to create and place them.

I think you'd better get ZDoom LE, it's based on ZDoom 2.8.1 and has many later bugfixes and even an old GL renderer from GZDoom.
About the minimum requirements for ZDoom AFAIR there were never official requirements but it ran on win98 and even on a pentium machine (pentium II and 64 mb to be safe?). You'd even be able to run LE in OpenGL on yours.

Nobody's done the intensive testing and note-taking necessary to give you an exact spec. The best we can give you is that GZDoom needs a video card made within the last decade (the last five years, if you're wanting the Modern renderer instead of the Legacy one), and that ZDoom will probably handle better if you have a CPU from within the last decade, and Windows XP at the bare minimum.

Any discrete card from the last 10 years will be good enough to run the modern renderer. And even for integrated graphics it's 6 or 7 years.
My CPU from 2012 has a HD 4000 integrated chipset and that can run the modern renderer. It's not great but it works.

Yo, but what if I do not want ZDoom LE, can I run normal ZDoom with my 64mb of vram?

And by ZDoom I mean ZDoom, not GZDoom or QZDoom.

Why don't you just try?
Plain ZDoom doesn't even need an accelerated graphics card to work.

Well, I guess I'll give it a go. Btw what is an "accelerated" GPU? (Silly question, I know, but I'm still learning.)
