Columbia Accident Investigation Board Report

Post by Biff »

Not zdoom-related but enough of you may be interested in this to make it worth posting. The shuttle Columbia accident has been investigated in detail, the findings written up and made public. Here's the web site:
http://www.caib.us/news/report/default.html

If you download the entire volume 1 pdf file, you won't be disappointed, it's full of a wide scope of background, techincal detail and analysis, images and recommendations. It's a fascinating read for the "story" parts even if you don't care about some of the detail.

For convenience, in case that web site is not available, I've put the entire report here, zipped:

Yeah and if you link from that page to the nasa site, you'll find that it's the smallest version! There are three versions of the same report with the highest resolution being over 100 MB. This is a large document, chock full of enough background, overview, images, analysis and detail to satisfy anyone I think.

I haven't had a chance to read it all yet, but from what I've read so far, I'm quite impressed. The document manages to present the facts while at the same time treating the situation with the respect and gravity that it deserves, (after all, 9 people have died over this, folks :() and goes into quite alot of background to make sure readers understand the situation fully.

Definately a recommended read for anybody with a little extra time on their hands.
