Doomguy's Hardware Upgrade

Post by YukiHerz »

But is it really an upgrade?

This mod spices up the vanilla Doom weaponry, with things such as smoother animations and better* sounds.
*They came from DoOME Threee

This is not the definitive version of this mod by any means, I want to turn this into a full fledged gameplay mod, I'm simply releasing this now hoping to get some criticism of the weapons.

Screenshots: None, they wouldn't be able to display the changes, I'd appreciate it if someone could upload a video for me, since my internet and computer are really bad.

Code: Select all

Credits:
Perkristian: Chaingun extra frames
iD Software, Raven Software & D3/Q4 Audio Peeps: Doom 3 & Quake 4 resources.
Chainsaw frames obtained from Romero's dumps.
Download: Right Here
Extra: Exported TEXTURES frames, including many unused reload frames: Don't expect anything otherwordly.

Changes:
-Fists now randomly alternate between left and right punches, both deal the same damage and work with Berserk powerup.
-Fists now make swinging sounds and have smoother animations.
-Chainsaw uses extra frames from Romero's dump, and has improved sounds.
-Pistol has smoother animation and is always accurate.
-Shotgun now has smooth animations.
-Super Shotgun also has smooth animations, it's ammo system is a little more complex, with the 2 loaded shells being separate from the total shell count, and will have a weaker attack if only one shell is loaded.
-Chaingun has smoother animations thanks to Perkristian's extra frames, now it winds up and down before and after firing, and the first shot isn't accurate.
-Rocket Launcher has smoother animations.
-Plasma Rifle has smoother animations.
-BFG now has a long charge time after clicking fire button and smoother animations.

Beyond these changes the weapons remain functionally identical, which is why I'm looking for criticism as I feel some of these changes may throw some weapons off-balance.

I absolutely love this mod! My only complaint is the shotgun seems to have a much faster reload kind of making it much better than the super shotgun.

I've updated the file with the following changes:

-Pistol no longer fires as fast as you click, but now it autofires as long as you have the button held.
-Shotgun's rate of fire slightly decreased.
-Super Shotgun's rate of fire slightly increased.
-Chaingun's first shot no longer accurate.
-Fists now use proper swinging sounds.

As an extra I've exported all the animation frames made in TEXTURES as a resource, it's in the main post, this includes unused reloading animations (though they are quite silly).

Edit: Last Minute Hotfix: Closer-to-vanilla balance, courtesy of Tapwave.

-Fists are somewhat slower now.
-Shotgun's vertical spread is flat.
-BFG takes 41 tics to charge rather than 83.
