I believe the primary difference is OpenGL support for hardware rendering, where as Zdoom uses an updated version of the software rendering from the original Doom engine. Because of the advanced rendering engine, GZDoom has a bunch of extra visual features. From what I'm observed so far, GZDoom can do everything that ZDoom can, and then some.

Pretty much that. GZDoom is "ZDoom + pretty OpenGL renderer" (shaders, lights, models, no y-shearing) in a lot of respects.

Found this thread cause I only use ZDOOM
Not sure what the point of upgrading would be
I just like to play standard vanella style maps and make my own of the same style
weird

ZDoom as it is (version 2.8.1) has been discontinued. It is advised to either go to GZDoom or LZDoom, which targets lower hardware. You can find these at zdoom.org.

Newer mods may rely on features that are introduced post-ZDoom 2.8.1, and as such they will not run on ZDoom 2.81 or throw an error. As time progresses, the likelyhood of a mod supporting a more modern version will increase.

Then don't bother. It's a free world.
But don't make a big stink about it either.

I don't see any question here. There are no question marks and nothing is worded to ask for a decisionary response.

Question asked and answered already, letting this go on would be a mistake.
