My computer stopped working
My computer stopped working and i hate my computer for it, it used to be a good computer three years ago. Every program stops responding and it takes forever for it to start responding again. My doom level editor sometimes refusing to load resources and even when it does, it stops responding a lot, especially when i save. My zdoom and gzdoom lag when i play Doom. My computer refusing to start Internet browsers, i only have it on now because Firefox started when i was uninstalling a program. My computer crashes a lot. It takes forever for my computer to uninstall programs with Control Panel. It takes forever for windows explorer to open all my files. It takes forever to reboot. It refuses to turn off or turn on. My computer is a three year old laptop.

Well, it's quite common for laptops to start malfunctioning a lot after more than a year of use. I suggest you buy a new one.

That's not good advice, or even suggestion. As that suggestion is a large expense to what could be a small problem. This problem OP is having can be fixed if people sit down and help diagnose the problem. An example:lil'devil wrote:Well, it's quite common for laptops to start malfunctioning a lot after more than a year of use. I suggest you buy a new one.
Have you scanned your computer (let's use the term 'computer' here for laptop, as it'll be easier for me) for viruses, malware and the like? Is Windows up to date?
Lastly, the computer is starting: that's a good thing. Your BIOS/UEFI reads everything's good.. so far. But you said that it takes forever to reboot. Does this problem happen during Windows' initial shutdown process or does it happen when you're booting up Windows from your BIOS/UEFI Prompt? What you could do is check to see what's the status of your HDD. I recommend a program such as CrystalDiskInfo. It'll tell you the SMART status of your HDD. SMART isn't always accurate, but it's a start to help us point you in the right direction.
Edit: Just read now that you said that the computer refuses to turn on or off. Is it going past its BIOS/UEFI prompt or is it not turning on at all? If it's the latter, try removing the battery from the computer and having it powered directly from the DC cable. Laptops are finicky when it comes to batteries.

I did a scan and nothing was detected. I even uninstalled some programs. My computer is still not working.

Re: My computer stopped working
Like I said in the post, did you try using CrystalDiskInfo? If so, what does the SMART say about your primary HDD?
If you can't install / use CrystalDiskInfo, bring up your command prompt (Windows+R, cmd) and type in the following:
After doing this, the command line will update (probably awkwardly too) to read:
Now type the following:
If typed correctly, it should update to read:
Replace "OK" with whatever pops up on your end. Be it "ERROR", "BAD", whatever. You can safely close off the command prompt after this. Problem with this method is, it doesn't exactly help tell us what's wrong with your HDD, if there is one. CrystalDiskInfo can give much clearer information.
If you can't install / use CrystalDiskInfo, bring up your command prompt (Windows+R, cmd) and type in the following:
Code: Select all
wmicCode: Select all
wmic:root\cliCode: Select all
diskdrive get statusCode: Select all
Status
OK
OK-

Re: My computer stopped working
Abashi, you're going to have to help us help you. "It doesn't work" does not tell us anything. If you can give us any more information, AT ALL, such as exact text of any messages you're getting, that will help. But without that information, we are all just making random guesses at what might help you, and that's not going to fix your problem unless you're extremely lucky. Hopefully, Hellser's instructions can help you get us some useful information to work from.Abashi76 wrote:I did a scan and nothing was detected. I even uninstalled some programs. I'm taking a wager it's the HDD, considering his computer is being slow and unresponsive. But it can be a number of things.

wildweasel is right though.
This is essentially the equivalent of opening a dark cave and yelling out "there's a mean evil beast here!" but you can't see anything. No paths to take, not even a map to give you clues or help you if you get lost.

That sounds like a great map to me. All you need is a super shotgun and a 200% armor before entering the cave.

Re: My computer stopped working
Well, historically speaking, Abashi has not been especially helpful in being helped, and to my knowledge has never thanked anybody for their help. I see numerous such pleas for help in his posting history, usually ending with someone asking for details or making a suggestion, then nothing.
