Ever notice how some games make reference to other games? In particular, I'm talking about games shared between companies (though we can turn this into a straight-up Easter Egg topic if you want.)
For instance, I've noticed that some of id Software's games past Quake include a Nailgun of some type. They are, of course, fitted to the universe of the game itself, such as RAGE's Nailgun having a dystopian look to it, or Quake 4's looking more futuristic and rounded. I find it to be a cool nod to their legacy, especially in RAGE's case, since it's not a direct part of the Quake universe. I really hope they include one in the upcoming Quake Champions...
You guys got any particularly nice ones?

Re: Company "Traditions"
you're going to mention a nailgun in id games and not the definitely more defined dopefish?
they showed up in quake and quake 3, and later on doom 4 had some subtle references to them

Deus Ex: Human Revolution also had a Dopefish easter egg. But that is kind of the defining factor: it's an easter egg rather than a part of the main game.

A nailgun was found within Doom 4's resources, so there you go.

From Software, creators of the King's Field & Dark Souls series, (almost) always include a Moonlight Sword in their games one way or another.

The closest thing to a Dopefish these days is the Greentooth, which is associated with a certain artist community and is explicitly public domain for no IP issues (unlike dopefish )allowing its presence to cross many games of many different companies.
if you look hard enough you'll find it, though the easiest most obvious place to find one is on a TF2 item.

IIRC ILM put a Wilhelm scream in all their movie.
