i'm half tempted to combine this with my hehbot-powered archviles which move as fast as a player and can move while attacking

it is the most scary thing on the planet when an archvile comes around the corner while you're hiding

You'd have to add sprites so Souls and PEs leave corpses and re-write their Decorates so the corpses stay, like other monsters.

I played around with this idea once. It throws gameplay completely out of balance. If there are three or four AVs in a large room with other monsters, it becomes a slaughtermap very quickly. Removing the NOTARGET flag from the AV restores a little balance.

UNLESS - you made it so the AV could resurrect another AV, Cyber or Spiderboss only ONCE and permanently die in the process. You'd have to add an Alt-Death state to the AV with A_ChangeFlag("CORPSE", FALSE), or have it A_FadeOut as if it was giving up its existence to become the other AV/Cyber/SpiderBoss. I don't know how to query the class or identifier of the monster raised to determine when to enter the Alt-Death state. That's beyond my current Decorate skills.

However, a singleton, MAP30, boss-type, Archvile King that could raise anything, even at a distance... THAT is a viable monster. And a hell of a megawad ending.

I feel like it would be really dumb to have an AV resurrect another AV just to die so you'd have odd situations where AVs will get into a resurrection chain reaction and the end result was that the living AVs have had their positions shuffled.

But every time an AV gets resurrected, the total number of AVs in the area would be one less. Without some resurrection limiting factor, it would be like having an endless spawner. You could also set half a dozen AVs to block a Key/Door/Exit and it would be impossible to get past them.

Doom II Beta's archviles were capable of resurrecting Pain Elementals and Lost Souls
They even could resurrect a gib (corpses laying on the ground) into Lost Souls.
I still don't know why they removed this feature.

which is why Lost Souls use to scare me as a kid and why I suggested noclip above as they would be resurrected and could go through walls.

I meant that it would be mostly pointless for AVs to res AVs if the number of them is gonna stay the same in the end. They just shouldn't do that in general unless you'd count them doing that as "confusion tactics" in an AV filled slaughtermap.
