Slade Had A Trojan In It
Slade Had A Trojan In It
So I downloaded Slade 3 so I could edit wads and such, but all of the sudden windows says it found malware and is removing it. I then see it say that TrojanWin32 or something like that was found in slade.exe. Did I get the wrong slade or is windows just being stupid?

Which anti-virus software are you using? It may be a false-positive due to bad heuristics.
Re: Slade Had A Trojan In It
It was windows defender. I don't have any actual anti-virus because I can't be bothered.
Re: Slade Had A Trojan In It
And just I side note, I have the full name now.
Trojan:Win32/Varpes.M!d
Trojan:Win32/Varpes.M!d
Re: Slade Had A Trojan In It
Well, I use Windows Defender too and I don't have any problems with it. Win 10, for the record. Probably something else. I downloaded the installer and ran it through Win Def. Nothing found.
Re: Slade Had A Trojan In It
I downloaded from the installer too. And it only started acting up today for some reason.
Re: Slade Had A Trojan In It
Another side note, I can't run it now. It says I don't have the right permissions.

I'd suggest running a full scan on your computer (after updating your definitions); I suspect that something else is infecting it on its way to your machine.
Re: Slade Had A Trojan In It
I've exactly the same problem with Windows Defender, maybe because of the new updates.
Re: Slade Had A Trojan In It
The greater majority of the Doom community is far more security-minded than the average computer user, and you will discover that very quickly the longer you spend time here.
That being said, pretty much anything that comes from an official source will, 99.99% of the time, not contain a virus. The 1 in 10,000 time that it does it gets publicized about very quickly and people tend to be very helpful with instructions on how to remove the threat. (In most cases it's intentional malware that's easy to remove - we've had some unscrupulous programmers in the past - it's exceedingly rare for a virus to slip through the cracks)
The chances that your statement (per the topic of this thread) being true are extremely unlikely unless you got it from a third-party site.
