Strange problem with phone and headphones

Post by Amuscaria »

So I'm running into a strange phenomenon recently, I got a new pair of headphones (pretty cheap ones) and put them on my Galaxy S5 mini phone. They are simple headphones that you just put inside your ear. Whenever I wrap the headphone cords around my phone to place into my pocket, the phone starts to heat up like crazy, until it simply shuts down from overheating. I don't really know why this is happening. Some sort for induction heating from the coiling? This never happened with my old headphones. Ideas?

Possibly induction heating. Even then, I'd personally advise against coiling any kind of wiring with electricity going through them around such a sensitive device.

Do the earbuds have a built in microphone? I wonder if the mic to ground isn't activating...
