About the musics in 3DO Doom and D3 BFG Edition.

Post by Freaklore1 »

So i got 2 questions for you guys.

First, what is your toughts on the 3DO version of the musics.

I think it's quite good,of course the tempo is slower but the instruments used make the songs sound awesome, that's why i got the music wad.

And secondly, what's up with the midis they used for Doom 1 & 2 in Doom 3 BFG Edition ?

It feel downgraded compared to what we actually have with Doom 1 & 2 on PC.

Couldnt the devs used something better ?

Doom 3 BFG Edition uses timidity and some free GUS Pats, as the official GUS pats are still sort of under copyright. 3DO's music is pretty cool. Was bobbing my head to it earlier.

i have no opinion on the BFG Edition's music as i've never played it. 3DO's music is pretty good, though i will say not every track is stellar. but given that it was apparently cobbled together rather hastily, i can't say it was a bad effort. At Doom's Gate is a pretty cool rendition.

True, some of the songs could have been better, but there are some sweet ones.

Also whoever put a cowbell in this rendition of At's Doom's gate was a genius...probably was Christopher Walken, that guy always need more cowbell. (joke)

You know, when i think about...it would had been nice if PSX Doom had this soundtrack instead,i mean i dont mind the more dark ambiance track made by Aubrey Hodges, but having the entire game (including Doom 2) with that style would had been awesome too, just imagine yourself back in the days, playing that game with that kind of soundtrack.

IIRC, the soundtrack of 3DO Doom were just some guys that the founder of the game company Art Data Interactive had a band with. apparently he was better working with a garage band than video games.

The 3DO soundtrack simply kicks ass. I wish they covered all original Ultimate Doom tracks, and maybe even Doom II. I'd love to hear their versions of Running From Evil, The Healer Stalks, Into Sandy's City, and The Dave D. Taylor Blues.

By the way, if you want the high quality AIF files from the 3DO source, you can download them here.

I wonder if it's possible to contact these guys or if someone could try to reproduce their style ?

That would be quite interesting to hear that.

i'm pretty sure they don't wanna be reminded of having been part of a trainwreck as huge as 3DO Doom.

I would keep letting them know that the music was the best and probably only good part of the whole port. The Doom community needs you! Do it for teh musicx!

even so, i don't think "soundtrack composer for 3D0 Doom" is something you want to be especially remembered for. i mean, if i were involved in a bad project like that, i'd just want to forget ever having partaking with it and moving on with my life, as i'm sure the musicians for that game was. even if it was the only good thing in the game.

When you make a mistake, you just cant forget something like that and just live on with your life,if you dont keep yourself reminding all the mistakes you made in your life you will never learn from them and try to improve yourself, because if you dont you will only make the same mistakes again and again.

i didn't say you should deny that you made mistakes, that's stupid. everyone makes mistakes and learns from them. what i was getting at was that you'd probably be frankly embarrassed for having worked on such a total trainwreck of a video-game port; you'd probably not want to be associated with it whatsoever. that has nothing to do with anyone making mistakes (i didn't even say anyone made mistakes, just that the port's development was abysmal), and if i were at least partially involved in such a product, i wouldn't want to be remembered as "the guy that did the only good stuff on the project." i'd probably have lots of bad memories involved with it, anyway.

Why? Seems like that would be a benefit.
