Battlefield 1 (as in World Wad 1) Official Reveal Trailer.

Post by maseter »

Shovels, zeppelins and Lugers? No it's not Wolfendoom, it's Battlefield 1, set in the first world war this time:

I'm conflicted now. I have wanted World War 1-based shooters for ages now, but I've never been a particular fan of the Battlefield series. And that name...that's gonna confuse some people. =/

There never was a "Battlefield 1" back in the day, the overlooked original from 1999 is called "Codename Eagle":

"The game is set in an alternate timeline, centered around events starting in Petrograd, Russia in 1917. World War I and the 1917 October Revolution never happened. Germany has yet to become involved with any of the other world powers."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codename_Eagle

People should go play this until the new fancy BF1 is released in October, maybe Google "Codename Eagle" + zone...

Well, yeah, I loved Codename Eagle back in the day. The most hilariously broken multiplayer vehicle physics in town! Terrorizing the enemy base with a huge-ass zeppelin was a real hoot...just make sure it never collides with the map geometry, or the zeppelin ceases being solid and you'll fall to your death if you ever let go of the controls.

WWI would be a better fit as a strategy game IMO

On that note, I wonder why nobody has bothered trying to replicate the "advance from cover/suppressing fire" school of squad-level strategy from Brothers in Arms or Full Spectrum Warrior. It'd be a perfect fit for this setting, IMO.

I'm amused at the irony - there are actual vivid colours in this game when WWI was archetypically grey and nasty brown-shooter aesthetic.

Dammit. I thought this was going to be a Battlefield 1942 reboot or something.

That's mainly because all we know are black and white photos and film footage, reality was quite more colorful, the French had blue coats for example, their fruity generals even red pants!

The joke is that it wasn't an intentional typo or pun, i didn't even notice it until you pointed it out!

Touché, though there's something about this vid that really, really doesn't capture the actual look of WWI so much as some modern gamers were told about trenches, mustard gas and flamethrowers and told to extrapolate the rest...
