Cheating in Video games?
I honestly don't mind using them in single player games as they can be useful in making the game less frustrating and tedious in some aspects.
How do you feel about using cheats in video games?

Well for me, cheating is when i just want to have fun doing anything absurd. I just don't use cheat when i want to play the actual game fairly.

Re: Cheating in Video games?
In older games like Doom, using built-in codes like IDKFA and such is perfectly fine, and it's up to the player to decide how they want to play the game. Other single-player games are also fair game. If someone wants to use cheats or a trainer of some kind strictly for solo play for whatever purpose, then that is their choice and it doesn't affect anyone.
Using cheats or hacks in multiplayer versus or competitive matches is where I draw the line. Now it negatively impacts the entire game and everyone in it. Co-op is about the same, but a little less so. Using cheats in a co-op experience helps the team, but it makes it easier or changes the way it's supposed to be played without any.
TL;DR: Solo play cheats are fine, multiplayer cheats are not.

I'll gladly use cheats to cut down on timewaste or making the game harder than it should be (speedhacking is fun).

Re: Cheating in Video games?
I'm always clipping when I've funted up a boxjump or fell off a ledge. My way of looking at it is. if you know you can do it without cheating (eg you've played it before without cheats)then no biggie on the conscience. however think about it. all weapon mods are cheats really as the original maps were not designed for them. godmode is usefull for bug testing. but to be honest savegames remove the need for excessive overcheating anyhow. however the only 'cheat' Id say is mandatory is Lud's custom difficulty mod: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f= ... 46#p897234 I couldn't even think of playing some wads without it. some are just too tough...

Re: Cheating in Video games?
I cheat when I play the game for the very first time - or when the game cheats as well. In this case, two can play that game
so using cheats when the game cheats is fair play I think.

In Minecraft I'll often head over to a creative world to build something really quick to make sure everything is where I want it and that things work before spending the resources and time setting it up in a survival world. But I don't consider that cheating, in the same vein as above isn't cheating.

I'm always playing ZDoom and Zandronum with god mode and infinite ammo. Only on single player, of course. And when I'm playing deathmatch with those cheats, it's against bots.
When it comes to emulation, I nowadays almost always use rewinding in conjunction with save states.

Technically yes but I definitely do it. Creepers are griefers and unless I'm playing with something that can preserve inventory drop without spilling items all over the place, is rather not lose my stuff when I die.

Re: Cheating in Video games?
Doom-wise, I often just resurrect myself instead of having to start over from the previous save/last state of the level. Other guiltier practices include using a health regeneration WAD with some mods or IDKFA for super-difficult monster closets.

Re: Cheating in Video games?
See for me I would never cheat in online/multiplayer games since using cheats in those games is a really cheap strategy anyway, plus you can get banned for doing it too.
Well I remember when I was at a friend's house playing multiplayer with other players in skulltag doom before zandronum came out and we were taking turns playing.
Well when I was playing I've noticed something a little odd was goings on because this one player was not dying or getting any damaged at all and it wasn't just me either it was other players that was trying to inflated some damage on this guy but nobody couldn't. But that's when we figured out that he was using cheat code and he was using gods mode so he wouldn't be killed or damage so we banned him from playing with us because it wasn't fare for all of the players. The only things that we allowed was infinite ammo, weapons, health, power ups, and summoning friendly monsters that was it.
I've been wanting to ask about that is summoning monsters or friendlys considered cheats?

Retro Force's Nightmare mode. It's harder than hard and your ass will be kicked, so so much! (No joke!)

Noclip, summon and godmode should always be available in singleplayer and where allowed by the server.

Re: Cheating in Video games?
I feel like cheating spoils the game somehow. For any game. In Doom, I savescum instead, if a map is too hard for me.
