DOOM Single Player Gameplay Footage (from stream)

Post by Jeimuzu73 »

In case you don't want to watch the whole stream on Twitch and just focus on the gameplay as much as possible, here it is.

Not a fan of the way enemies drop health and ammo.

EDIT: Dafuq with the unnecessary upgrade system? Even RAGE didn't have that.

I like the upgrade system, along with things like the side-missions and whatnot. It's completely optional and allows greater flexibility for those who want it. There's literally no good reason not to include it (EDIT: At least not that I can conceive of).

Side missions should be implicit in the form of secret levels and nonlinear map design.

Trying to watch the second vid, the constant interruptions with the menus and infographics and shit is starting to make me want to puke - not from disgust, just motion sickness from the interruptions!
(That said, they all seem to be brought up voluntarily, and probably meant more to showcase them than an indicator of how likely we'd be doing this in actual play.)

(I like how the finishers are much faster and less flow-breaking now than they were in the alpha video.)

...I just realized this menu-pause-rethink stuff is from Baldur's Gate. If you had a Ghost Recon-esque squad system on top of this it could be really interesting!

Third vid: oh I'm really starting to hate this upgrade system! This constantly picking from menus is not fun or edifying in any way except maybe to test a person's patience. I am so done with fucking MtG-stack-oriented game design.

Really liking the overall visual design of everything, though I can't help but feel the polish has removed a lot of the crudeness, the "edge" from the gore in the original Doom hell scenery. Not sure if that's not necessarily an unmitigated improvement and it's only my nostalgia taking issue with it.

::keeps watching::

...no, it's missing something. The original freaky skin and blood wasn't just edgey-gore, it had a genuine feeling of this is wrong what the fuck is that? Now it's more you have now reached level X of the orc dungeon, and even that more Warhammer than Silmarillion.

I guess this isn't too surprising given that in the entire generation that has passed in between one and the other the popular culture has evolved to the point where Hell is no longer a threat of supernatural horror and torment and just another fantasy trope. :|

I am still not convinced right now. I will wait until release and until there are proper reviews put out. There is still a good chance that this will fail like Thief 4.

seriously anyone involved with the development of Thief 4 can eat shit

Here's another stream by Gamespot that has a better host than the Bethesda one.

They also put up a raw 15 minute gameplay video of Hell gameplay.

What's kinda frustrating is that the second video is just the same gameplay from the stream, with the commentary track muted. They could have been cool and done a separate "fo' realz" run, but as-is you can see the player halting and messing up because he's trying to talk at the same time.

All things considered though, it looks really freaking awesome. The room at 1:38 reminds me of E2M1.

So here's the first easter egg of the game.

Somehow i knew that the devs would make the easter eggs like that.

Also if what the guy in the video said is true, then Zion Doom 4 weapon mod wont be necessary in a way, lol.

Did he actually just say that all the original Doom levels will be playable in the new Doom? The full versions? I don't believe it!

hopefully it won't be as boring a slog as the secret levels in The Old Blood. the first level of Wolfenstein in New Order was a fun thing to do, but the other levels just turned into painfully boring-arse slogs, where if you die once you have to do it all over again. and it's very easy to miss keys, even if they're made comically large to subdue this.

Yup,you gotta find those secret locations wich are portions of the Doom 1 levels, then once you find them you'll be able to play the full version of those levels with the Doom 4 engine wich means the weapons, the ennemies and the double jumping all inside the classic environments,so like Princess VM said it's kind of like what ID did with the throwback levels in Wolfenstein the New Order.

Hence why i mentioned Zion Doom 4 mod wich the actual Doom 4 will have but instead of a mod it will be with the actual Doom 4 engine.
