Has anyone ever had the gaming media pick up on your mods?

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

Has anyone ever had the gaming media pick up on your mods?

Post by demo_the_man »

So i started a new project, a re-make of the old goldeneye TC. It was going to use gzdoom and stuff. Then all the sudden, i start getting a crapton of traffic to the mods moddb page, then the game play video i posted had over 25k views. Is this normal for doom mods? It is a bit weird to me.

A few publications over the years picked up Hypertension: Harmony of Darkness, the biggest one was Game Informer. It still gets mentioned on bigger sites from time to time, but we really need to get a move on it and release something soon. My other one is Slave, which I handled the porting duties for. Also, PC Gamer picked up on CeeJays 3DGE Duke mod, so that was a big boost for the engine. :-)

don't know if it counts but I had ABC news (or another American broadcast) contact me about writing a story on a game mod I made back in 2007, which had a controversial theme dealing with terrorism in Afghanistan. I ignored them as I really didn't know how to react.

I think Reelism got a shout-out on one site that shortly afterwards ceased posting articles and is currently in the stages of closing down.

Currently for me, only icarus reviewed Hunter's Moon from this gaming media view point calling me "an insane person" (lmao) which recieved some attention, besides this only a russian site and a german one published something about HM. Being honest i like when someone notices my mod but i also don't care when nobody says about it because by myself, i want keep this underground.

I never get any media coverage for anything I do because I don't know how to do anything worth anyone's time and interest.

use that to your advantage. letting fame get to your head is not always desirable for production focus. OA wasn't for such a famequest and infact I've even turned down one uk magazine for an interview. I just want to make the arts dam nit

Nope, but it's because of the following:
  1. It's not fully playable
  2. It doesn't fundamentally change the way Doom is played
  3. Poor advertisement
  4. Poor graphics/animation
Hopefully, my next project will be able to fix some of those critiques. That's far in the future, however.
Not like I want to be popular anyway. Too many popular people get their asses handed to them if they do a single thing wrong.

i don't think a.k doom is gonna get much attention any way and i want it to stay that way
