i don't want this to be a place for me to spill trash, and for everyone to have to clean it up; while i would like to mention some things in my own experiences, i also do want, strongly, to be able to aid others...
one of my fears is a strong feeling that i'll have worked on something, to no avail; this kind of worry may have been evident of me, previously, but i'm always afraid that someone'll steal my work and just turn it into their thing, or worse, that i'll release it... and it won't be noticed (this isn't bad because i want my work to be "seen", as much as the fact that i make game-related things to be able to play them later, in multiplayer; this is a driving motivation of mine.) i've always felt like people play mods out of marketing, because they tell all of the right people, and so it's... disillusioning, when i start feeling like i'm going to be the only one to ever try it.
i just have trouble imagining that being creative alone would get anyone to actually play the thing; this is compounded by life experience (i always "carried" my school projects, and everyone else would get themselves credit for it, sometimes even totally leaving me out somehow.) it's weird... but it really gets in the way of any effort

Re: thread to discuss in-depth motivation issues
i tend to stress about things a lot
the best thing that helps me is thinking "if they hate you they ain't worth knowing"
or my version "ef þeir hata þig , eru þeir ekki þess virði að vita"
sorry its in icelandic
it is surprising that it has no accent marks though.
anyway back on topic

Re: thread to discuss in-depth motivation issues
As a Zandronum-incompatible tactical milsim Doom mod with blatant religious overtones and generally liberal-biased political satire, the mod I've been working on for almost 10 years and counting is as unmarketable as it gets. I would be genuinely surprised to be aware of more than 10 people actively playing it any given season.
With that in mind, my best advice is to make what you love, and don't quit your day job. Worst thing that can happen is you've made something you love.
But for group projects where there are more practical consequences, it helps a lot to be more chatty about it - whatever you're working on, that's what's on your mind and talk to everyone about it in casual conversation without fear of boring anyone (in fact if they're bored then it's a good sign because they no longer consider what you are telling them to be new). Just talk about what you're doing and it'll be clear that you were the one doing it.

should quickly say - it's an amazing mod, the most... "challenging" part for me was realizing that taking usable magazines out of ai guns isn't possibleVaecrius wrote:As a Zandronum-incompatible tactical milsim Doom mod with blatant religious overtones and generally liberal-biased political satire, the mod I've been working on for almost 10 years and counting is as unmarketable as it gets. in terms of actual challenge, i specify the entire mod, it's awesome(-ly difficult)
(uh-oh - roboticist's weapon medical weapon at slot 9 crashes the game)
(also, a suggestion in as few words as possible: more grenade types)
(a few extra ideas with the above: thermite, distinct fragmenting vs concussion, gaseous (riot, incapacitating, unrealistic corrosive, poison (anything mustard to neurotoxic,) illuminating, "blinding", a high-capacity but heavy one with a napalm or mark 77 type filler which sort of spills and sticks to enemies (whereas thermite would just be static area denial elimination)
(another edit: i find myself uncontrollably staring my feet down, i wonder if this is the new gzdoom acting up... i never found out how to get those weapon sprites to interpolate, anyone know how to do it?)

Thanks, but let me get the frag grenades not to lag the game forever first, lol.
By the way, the crash and the pitch-snap are now fixed.

Here's a cliché: just have fun. Modding isn't a job, it's recreation. If you run into a wall with one aspect of your project, work on another part or start a side project. It'll expand your knowledge and experience and translate into faster progress for everything you do.And from the beginning you should work on something that *you* want to make AND play.
