monster combination ideas?
if you had to cut the doom bestiary in half or less by combining two or monsters and making a new one that is a sort of "average" wich monsters would you combine?
ideally this fusions should not be the monster inheriting the same attacks as its materials, but having a new attack that is a sort of in bewtween
do you have ideas of interesting combinations? if your a mapper i'd love what kind of "averaged" monster would you find a useful alternative to a stock monster?

I don't honestly feel like we needed the Hell Knight; I wouldn't have minded if the Baron had an HP nerf to better suit the Knight's role (maybe from 1000 to 600 or 700?), or perhaps the Revenant be modified slightly to fill the Knight's space and the Baron be left alone.

Zombieman/Chaingunner. Size of zombieman, has chaingun, shoots 5 6-round bursts with random chance of looping to another burst instead of going back to see state.
Imp/Pinky. Size of the former, fast and almost as tough as the latter, long melee range so it only resorts to fireballs when it can't close in on you within (say) 2-3 seconds.
Lost Soul/Spectre. A flying nuisance that fades in and out of existence, usually behind you, gnawing at your face and getting in your way (and your rockets) at the worst possible moments.
Caco/Hellknight. Just a generic floating pinky-sized moderate-heavy hitter/soaker. Would be the basic generic mook for the post-SSG world.
Shotgun guy/Arachnotron: Heavily armoured android that shoots triple plasma shots at you.
Barrel/Bossbrain. Eggs/pods of varying size that can be exploded, if they aren't exploded in time they'll either divide into 2-3 smaller ones or hatch into one (or more) of the above.
Baron/Archvile. Scary super bullet sponge. Has both claw and hellfire attack, the latter of which, instead of blowing you up directly, explodes into seeking green fireballs that can either hit you for huge damage or raise a nearby corpse.
Cyberdemon/Mancubus. Enjoy your two-fisted mini-rocket spam!
Spiderdemon/Revenant. Imagine a towering, skinny, agile, relentless, agitated thing chasing after you launching rapid-fire tiny homing missiles. Definitely a more interesting fight actually worthy of the climax of Doom 1.

Hell knight/former human, please! neoworm did a "halfling" concept which afaik hasn't been expanded upon yet, by him or anyone else. Would reeeeally like to see that. In-game I guess he'd hurl small green plasma balls at you - still pretty deadly, so he's not just a human-level threat.
EDIT:
EDIT EDIT:
This guy, too, why not. Half imp, half Heretic golem. He'd probably look a bit silly in-game but a beefcake imp (faster, tougher, maybe a slightly stronger attack) would be fun to fight.
So raymoo, are you accepting challenges, per chance?

Vaecrius, I really like the way you break down and analyze Doom. You've obviously got an incredibly in-depth understanding of how the balance works and ways to screw with it without just throwing random stuff around.Vaecrius wrote:[lots of cool monster combos
Your combos sound awesome and I'd love to see a "rebalanced" Doom based on these, if you ever wanted to take a break from HD.

Re: monster combination ideas?
I could fuse hellsmith & cyberdemon together then hellsmith would have one hammer in the left and missile launcher in the right and Hellsmith would be half cyborg plus the health changes.
I'll probably name him Cybersmith or Hellborg.
These combination techniques does actually sounds like fusion because we had the same exact thing going on in a different topic but it feels really good having it here too.

Baronvile of hell
This demon is a combonation of the baron and archvile (OBVIOUSLY) and will be like a baron, but with an archvile head and arms, and will have hellfire, melee, and that weird fire possession thing or whatever the hell you call it.

@ vaecrius
your combinations sound really really good, the baron vile in particular sounds fun, having to risk yourself by luring the flames to you instead of the dead monsters. and somehow you made the lost soul (lost spectre?) even more annoying!
@ww
poor hk, its the baron thats bad XD
@jimmy
i'm mostly gathering ideas. the guy who helps me to sprite the freedoom monsters by making models agreed to help me out with the generic monster pack i've been teasing for a while

Mancubus and Arachnotron. They fulfill basically the same role anyway. The resultant combination would continuously fire short projectile bursts in a spread broken up by a charging delay.
