How do you honor Doom?

Post by Nevander »

We all love Doom, it's why we are here. It's why the community for Doom has stayed strong ever since it became one. For many of us, Doom was probably the first game we played or close to it. It was for me. Just a kid playing Doom because it was way more fun than going outside! So I'm here to ask, what do you do now in your own lives that you use to remind yourself how big an impact Doom has had on you. Something to remind you why it's your favorite timeless game.

For me, I have what I call a "Doom Day." On my birthday every year starting last year, I do everything Doom on that day. I start a fresh playthrough of The Ultimate Doom and try to complete at least the full four episodes. I might try to continue and play both Doom II and Final Doom also. Then I watch the Doom movie later (even though the opinions it gets, it's still the Doom movie).

Another way I honor Doom is just by creating maps for it. Even if it's just a simple basic map, I can say that I've created custom content for my favorite game. That's something to talk about.

So let's hear yours!

I have a Doom logo scribbled on part of my bedroom's blackboard wall. (In other news, I have a blackboard wall.)

Outside of my computer, where I have two Doom-dedicated folders worth two and a half gigabytes, no, there's nothing that says "Look it me! I'm a Doom fan", or something.

Doom is great and all, but I don't tend to exaggerate things. The game is not my life. It's just... a game...

I think I've left a legacy that shows my respect for the game that will last long after I die.

Other than that, it's like Blue Shadow said, really. You don't need Doom posters on every wall, 200 boxed copies of the game, and little Doom action figures everywhere to show that you love the game. Just the fact that it was the first "3D" game I ever played is enough.
Spoiler: The size of my main Doom folder?

As soon as I get that Collector's Edition, that Revenant figure's going up on my shelf. Right alongside all of my other game collectibles: the Mario Galaxy pre-order coin, my two Pac-Man plush toys, a Luigi figurine, a custom-made Aku Aku (Crash Bandicoot) cup from when I was in grade school... Alright, so I'm more dedicated to video games in general than I am to Doom by itself, but still!
Aside from that, I have a big ol' DOOM folder in the Documents section of my computer.

Well, I keep devoting my time developing a mod for it's descendant sourceport. And even play it here and then. (Although I haven't played complete vanilla doom in quite a while).

For me it's not just a game, it's like a lifestyle! I think about Doom all the time and randomly find myself humming parts of the Doom soundtrack in my head. I don't know if it's sad or cool to say that my best friend has been Doom. It's always there and easy to play whenever I want. And also over the years, I've had revelations that Doom is basically the greatest FPS game ever created and find myself always coming back to it no matter how many modern games I play. They just can't compare. Being born in the 90s and growing up playing Doom IS my lifestyle. Love the nostalgia.

What is "Doom" :?:

(Also, what Blue Shadow said. I do have numerous Halo minifigures, however.)

Clearly the only way one can truly honor their doom is to build a palace in its honor. Why do you think the ancient Egyptians made the Taj Mahal?

Every once in a while I play though Episode 1 without cheats on UV or Nightmare. Occasionally I feel nostalgic and play it with Doom 95 or Chocolate Doom.

Play DooM regularly, at least three times per week, for at least one to two hours, Doctor's orders!
