I tried to make what I needed on my own, and while mildly successful, it didn't turn out quite the way I wanted. Just one weapon (with pickup and animated of course). Now, onto the details.
You guys remember D!ZONE? The shovelware levels from WizardWorks in the late 90's? Well some of those boxes had what they called "simulated screenshots." Meaning, they made some cheap render of some kind and then pretended it was Doom, or that one or more of the levels included would appear like advertised. Apparently they couldn't actually use any Doom material in advertising. This infuriated many I'm sure, me included.
I've decided that for my super secret level of my megawad (MAP32), I will create this level in a playable and faithful form. I can handle map design. I've already finished the map more or less, I just need to balance it using this gun. Found textures to match from Community Chest 4, and I'm basing the areas of the map off the screenshots making sure to recreate each one as faithful as possible to the faked shots. The only problem is... the weapons and enemies they faked. If I were any good at making sprites or had Photoshop or something, I might could do a good job. Problem is, I seem to suck at this. This is why I am asking for help. Wouldn't be very cool if you entered the level and everything was there except the gun you always wanted to use.

So onto the guns... I've seen three guns on the faked shots.
The one I for sure would like made is the first one many people saw first. It's a cyan or turquoise rifle of some kind which resembles a railgun of some sort (top middle and bottom right/left screenshots). I envision it firing single high powered shots similar to a railgun. The gun doesn't appear to move when fired but feel free to move it as needed during animation. I would suggest simply making it animate upwards or downwards a small amount to give the effect of recoil, similar to the Doom 64 shotgun. The gun flash appears to be some kind of radial flash with transparency. The transparency is impossible I think in a software renderer, so you can ignore that. As far as sounds go, probably any railgun sound set would work well, but that's the last thing on the priority list.
As long as I can turn that rail gun looking thing into a working gun, I'm happy. I'm going to call it the "Ray Caster." You will be highly exalted in my work so you shall succeed.
