Lampioms/lamps used today?

In Doom3 there is a map in what Doomguy must help a scientist to cross an area that gets periodically dark because of eletromagnetic pulses. That guy uses a kind of lamp that, in my mother langhuage, would be translated as "lampiom" ("lampião"). It is just like the following:

Also, in some mods like Temple of the Lizard Men 3/4 and Lasting Light, there are some of this flashlight to be used.

Well, here where I live, this kind of flashlight is more liked to be found in museums. They are not foundon stores, and I dont see people it. We all use the other Doom 3's kind of flashlight instead. So it was kind of a (n anachronistic) shock to see one of these in the hightech enviroment of Doom3. So, I ask: is this kind of flashlight still commonly fabricated/used nowadays? Would it looks out of place in a present time, or futuristic, mod storyline?

More likely the Doom 3 lantern is patterned after one of these:

Loved that level back in the day, it was the best example of the new real-time shadow and unified lights technology back then. I remember not playing the level seriously and just messing around in that dark room just to check out the shadows.

It's definitely not out of place, especially if the facility seems to experience frequent power outages, like the ones caused by the alpa labs team, if I recall correctly. :P
This lamp is preferable to a flashlight in these cases because it's not so much a "directional" light but rather it illuminates all around, so you can place it down and do stuff without having to hold the torch.

Frist, thanks for ansewring, guys.

Now, hmmm... So, the one used here in Lasting Light is an old kind?

I'm curious most because I think this kind of light would be good in my mod, butit seems too ancient among the other stuff.

If it's the omnidirectional light source that you're after rather than a big bulky lamp, why not a glowstick? Anyway a powerful electric lantern like the (admittedly oversized) one in Doom 3 would certainly be very useful for performing mechanical maintenance in low light situations because of the powerful omnidirectional light, so I wouldn't say the basic shape is outdated despite being centuries old.

Spoiler:
Looks like a fluorescent lantern to me. I used to have one of those boxy ones.

I don't think that, by Doom 3's time, they'd still have fluorescent lanterns in general use. More than likely they'd have compact LED gizmos or something even better.
