Yes. Cory Whittle. 'cause honestly, it's been ripped off so many times already. God, I miss that guy.
Edit: I've stolen, but 'eh. Never been stolen from.

Not in Doom, really, but back in the days of StarCraft 1 and Brood War there was a guy posting my maps off as his own on one of the bigger websites for the game. I contacted the website about it but they basically said "F you for having your maps stolen" and kept them there in his name.

Re: have you guys ever had some one steal your recorces
People have probably seen me get pretty irritated when a mod comes out that uses my stuff. I mean, I can't exactly claim credit to every last pixel, but I would still appreciate it if people would just ask me first.

I think it's morally reprehensible and that it works against the culture of sharing assets and keeping things open source in the Doom community.
But myself I haven't really released anything anyone would want to steal, so no. Only times I've "stolen" myself have been for private testing purposes, and the few things I've saved from resource threads are labled with the creator's name so I can ask them for permission if I ever need to use any of them in something I release.

Ive always made sure i documented where i got what resource from, attempt to contact them, and if i cant contact them, i just credit them , and use it. My credits .txt is almost a page long for the tei tenga incident.

Re: have you guys ever had some one steal your recorces
I remember a few years back when I was on the HPack team that i discovered my brightmaps inside the mod. I mean, me back then was a bit irritated but now I just kinda think "eh, would've been nice to have been asked but they're just brightmaps". And honestly I'm pretty sure I stated in the .txt file that I didn't mind people using my resources so I was rather unjust I s'pose.

Re: have you guys ever had some one steal your recorces
My entire project builds upon other people's resources. When I take something, I always make sure the creator allows me to actually do that. If someone wants me to remove his resources from my project, I will do that.
The few original resources I have in my mod are free to use by everyone who gives me credit for them.

I try to do all my own resources these days, but I have released two maps that contain borrowed resources (f-tmcrr.wad and fskmps01.wad). My art is so bad I doubt anyone would steal anything I make.

Re: have you guys ever had some one steal your recorces
I've had assets stolen from some of my mods before. I make my own sounds, my own code (exclusively), and occasionally my own model, so I get kind of pissed when people take those without asking (especially my code). However, I don't care if people take some sprites, because sprites can be hard to make, and I use plenty of sprites from resource wads. All I ask is for anyone who takes said sprites is to credit the original authors as stated in the CREDITS lump in my mods, or if it's one of my own sprites, that I be credited.

You know those bullet hits with the bouncing sparks that seem to appear in nearly everything?

Yeah, I made those. Ripped from Halo 1 in 2006 2005 for my Haloguns mod, and they've kinda found their way everywhere, usually with no credit. I don't really mind that much since they're pretty simple, I just wish the credit would have been passed down properly.

I really hope I didn't forget to credit you somewhere along the line (I assumed you created it yourself).Caligari_87 wrote:You know those bullet hits with the bouncing sparks that seem to appear in nearly everything?

I'm not sure, considering there's so many mods I haven't played, including most of yours
I'm betting someone imported them to another mod (maybe Beautiful Doom?), someone else credited that mod, then someone credited that mod, etc.
Here's the original code, if you're interested. "Haloguns2.wad" can be downloaded in this thread.
