Nothing much going on

Post by randi »

Well, in the week since I've been back from AnimeIowa, I haven't really done any coding at all. But I thought I should make a news post so that everyone knows I at least think about ZDoom, so here is a semi-random link: zdoom.com: It exists, but it has nothing to do with ZDoom.

I think zdoom.com redirected to zdoom.notgod.com a few years ago.

I smell copyright infringement. [EVIL LAUGH!!]

What's that you say? ZDooM was never copyrighted or trademarked because it's open-source, and DooM's GPL prohibits it? Well, never mind then. Carry on... there's nothing to see here.

actually rex, zdoom isn't gpl, it's based on the first source release of doom which had a license which pretty much stated: 'do whatever you want with this but don't make any money off it'. it was later switched to gpl, but anything based on the original license was still under it unless they switched (Boom and MBF switched). ZDoom is originally (I believe) based on either windoom or ntdoom which are both under the original license, though randy has since rewritten it in c++ and tweaked and rewritten a good deal of it to the point where I'm sure there's very little (if any) of the original code in it.

edit: and also, where is 2.1 :P

Neither the Heretic nor the Hexen source are GPL.

Weird. How come then some Doom engines on Sourceforge have chosen "GPL"? (Thou that "property" is added to the Zdoom sf project too)
