- it's pronounced "Centre Zero One"

  • Caught in a winter storm, three explorers take refuge in a long abandoned warehouse.
Though devoid of human life for over a century, they quickly discover an elevator that
still works and descends into darkness. A century of darkness. A century of isolation.
    A century of waiting.

CENTRE - 01
  • a standalone, survival-horror shooter for GZDoom
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • The game itself:
    --------------------
    • Just like [all] Alone was supposed to be, Centre-01 is a science-fiction, with more emphasis on the horror
this time, shooter. The game world is free-roaming but does have an explicit linear narrative. However,
rather that just being a simple gun-solution game,
Centre-01 greatly emphasizes both survival and character
building through a limited RPG framework.

Your goal is very simple: escape from Viridian Asylum! To do so you'll have to go on a journey into the
darkest corners of the facility and survive your encounters with those who dwell there. Your arsenal is sparse,
but enough to survive with, if you're cautious.
Viridian Asylum is dynamic and open-ended. There are
no set, linear paths to goals. You will backtrack and revisit levels, discover new areas and unlock other routes
      through the facility.

And you will need to explore. Those who dwell in
Viridian Asylum are not to be trifled with unless you are
prepared for the deadly consequences. You will truly stand alone against a seemingly never-ending legion. By
      exploring
Viridian Asylum you will find ways to evade, lure, and even surprise enemies. Use the facility to
your advantage, or is the facility using you to its advantage? Where does this endless stream of ghoulish denizens
come from? Maybe by traveling deep enough, you'll find out.
  • Creation of the protagonist:
    ----------------------------------
    • Your name is Alan Malkovitch, a name that has floated around all three iterations of this project, and a man to whom
this line of work does not come to naturally. You are not a soldier, so your accuracy with any weapon is far from ideal.
When you sprint, your body tires out quickly. As you progress into
Viridian Asylum you'll have the chance to become more
than human. Only, how far are you willing to go?

      Delving into
Viridian Asylum means taking on the responsibility given with the power of cybernetics. Empty halls where
now only the machines wander. If you're going to survive you'll need to become a bit more like a machine, yourself.
Not that you really have a choice.

Becoming a cyborg has a cost: going deeper into
Viridian Asylum. But as you do you'll discover that you can shoot better,
sprint longer, even dive into the
Viridian Asylum l-NET. Your decisions will effect the gameplay and more.

Hey, thanks for the comments everyone, much appreciated.

06.18.2015 UPDATE - Retexturing Initiative
I received some rather harsh criticism today, mostly to the tone of the game looks like graphical crap. I can't say I haven't completely disagreed as I originally considered producing my own texture resources, but it was faster to get off the ground with R667 resources. So it started with a test of a couple brick textures, then the concrete, then the metal. In just a couple hours I replaced almost every environment texture in the following:
Spoiler: The Following:
Yes it's the same as the first image of the OP, but this is to mark that the Retexturing Initiative is on. It won't be long before I reach more well lit areas, so stay tuned.

People love to be overtly critical with a project that doesnt belong to them. One important thing to consider is that the project must reflect you, the creator before it appeases to the preferabilities of others. Your heart counts in this. I fucking love your project so far - we share the same appreciation for atmospheric environments and it matches the stories you're looking to tell! I can't wait to see more of what you have in store for this, Nero!

Really. It reminded me of Mass Effect on first glance. Maybe it's because it looks too advanced for a Doom mod. You just probably received those criticism from purists.

There's a source port for purists, and it's called Chocolate Doom. I don't understand how it works in their eyes. We've had various mods that push the limits of these ports, to show what is capable with an imagination and the right idea to give it momentum - and people complain about that? So I guess, Legacy of Suffering, Genetech, Soulcrusher, Phocas Island, and various other mods just aren't cookie enough for the cutters. Keep it up, man - we all like what we see.

Actually, no. I found myself in a discussion with a classmate as to the point of using (G)ZDoom as it is clearly, and I quote, "really out of date." I find a problem with the logic assuming the engine is "out of date." Whichever flavor, the engine is the modern descendant of id Tech 1, which has been the platform for numerous games that are beloved classics. These facts make the engine "retro" not "out of date." However, even explaining this was not enough and I realized that I was face to face with a gamer who judges graphics before gameplay, and he continually prattled on about modern this game and modern that game being so much better, essentially for looking better, he could find nothing else. I attempted to show off a few of the projects the community has been graced with, from KDiZD to Total Chaos, but he maintained that our engine of choice just can't compete. I attempted to point out that there are indie developers out there making 8bit, 16bit lookalikes that have palettes I can count on one hand but look beautiful for that retro flair, and quite a few are amazingly fun! He finally conceded there, but remained unimpressed by ZDoom as it is "out of date." He never seemed to get the retro idea when considering ZDoom.

Anyway, I'm saying all this because this criticism of my project came from a complete outsider to the ZDoom community. And I don't think that means it should be disregarded just for that reason. I'm continuing my education to help me develop as developer, so I am interested in what outsiders think of my work, and as bad as a criticism as it was, I can forgive someone who isn't an artist by trade for giving terrible criticism, and maybe even listen to them a bit more than the other artists. An artist will tell you why your painting looks like shit. A regular person will just tell you it looks like shit and leave it up to you to figure it out.

Your classmate sounds like a CODbro. You know the type, graphics are everything, COD is the only game that exists/that he will ever play, etc. Also sounds like he's just flat out ignorant too. I wouldn't consider his words to be any sort of good, valid criticism
