12 gauge dragons breath fire ammo, feels like Doom!

Post by maseter »

Here is FPSRussia firing a Remington model 878 with dragons breath ammo, which makes it shoot fire!

This feels like straight out of Doom, so which modder do i bother to make this weapon mod happen? :)

I'd be completely astonished if there wasn't like twenty mods that already feature this; maybe you should poke around?

...why did you post this in general instead of the projects idea thread?

A couple of mods already have this. The problem is, the Dragon Breath fire ammo isn't that effective at killing. It sets fire to clothing, and it's safe to assume in the future, armor is fireproof. If anything, should look into is flechettes. Darts in a shotgun case. Now lets electrify that some how~.

Hellser is right, the same type of ammo was also present in Red Faction 2 once you grab the shotgun, y'can grab normal shotty ammo and incendiary shotty ammo simultaneously (this is a bit funny), and the incendiary ammo was never really THAT effective. At least not in most games. In Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Flamethrower was the ultimate tool of destruction alright, but otherwise, such Dragon Breath ammo is only useful, if the enemies are programmed in such way that they immediately start to howl and jump around once their clothes are on fire, thus, rendering them unable to fight.

This type of weapon is dramatically useless against supernatural enemies and machines as well (Cannon turret, Rocket turret, various drones and robots)

Dragon Breath is a short lived chemical reaction. Where as a flamethrower throws a liquid which is on fire. That is a bit more devastating, IMO.

Yeah... but it's cooler than flechettes or buckshot.

I never understood, what kind of ammunition is "flechettes" and how guns can utilize'em if they contain no gunpowder. Maybe it's some kind of specific dart?

Flechettes are loaded akin to a sabot round. They're essentially metal darts with a high penetration value (due to the darts being pointed). Imagine a nail shotgun. Just remember; a shotgun is the most versatile thing you can have. Some people even fire rifle or pistol rounds in their shotguns just because - and with a wide range of accuracy.

A side note, and going by memory. Flechettes are actually in a dark gray area with the Geneva Convention. Interesting considering what a fragmentation grenade does.

Yes, this sounds reasonable :) Thank you for clearing this one up for me, even though it was a lil'bit off-topic, I still wished to know, how exactly flechettes work.

Off-topic can sometimes spark new conversation. As I said (or didn't?), Dragon Breath is freaking COOL to look at. But as an offensive means? Useless.

It's question of usage is a tad similar to the conversation about classic weapons vs. energy weapons. It's hard to come to an all-mighty conclusion, as classic weaponry (including incendiary ones) are sometimes better than "the future is NOW!!!" energy weapons. Against human enemies, animals or monsters sensitive to fire, it can be useful, if the actual enemy is stronger than being killed by just one shotgun hit, so the flames can torch him to death, but as for machine, ghost, or other kind of supernatural entity (for instance, the Disasteroid), incendiary shotgun rounds won't do any good, apart from angering the enemy up :D The same question can be applied to average frag grenades and white phosporus grenades.

I remember those incendiary shotgun rounds in Red Faction 2. Enemies were set ablaze, and they just stood still until they died, like a candle :)

CAn you possibly link me something on this? because I'm never heard of it before. Are you referring to putting pistol rounds in specialized shotgun shells or something?

8-)
