Paranoiac Released [2017-03-31]: Download Page 1

Post by ReX »

Paranoiac, the sequel to Paranoid is complete and available for download.

Features:
1. Set in the Half-Life universe
2. Three new weapons (plus the weapons of Paranoid)
3. Several new enemies (plus the enemies of Paranoid)
4. Fourteen new maps (plus TITLEMAP)
5. Over a dozen new music tracks
Spoiler:
More screenshots at DooM Nexus.

Video Trailer (Courtesy of Daniel "Tormentor667" Gimmer):

NOTE: You will need Paranoid.pk3 and GZDooM v2.4.0 or higher to play Paranoiac

Known Issues: Several maps have minor visual glitches when the game is played in GZDooM v2.4.0 with hardware acceleration of graphics. These typically arise when there is a sloped sector under a 3D floor. The texture of the sloped sector and/or its sidedefs get "blacked out". Does not affect gameplay. These visual glitches generally diappear in GZDooM 2.5Pre-232-GF48AF60 (2017-03-31), although the sloped under-liquid areas of Maps 21 and 23 still show this glitch. If this bothers you, when you come to these areas temporarily switch to Legacy or Software sector lighting mode in your Display Options Configuration for OpenGL Renderer. Perhaps future versions of GZDooM will address this problem completely.

You should make the HUD weapons 3D too, like Enjay's GeneTech project! :D

That''s beyond my skill level. Would you (or Enjay) like to volunteer? ;)

Fixed now. Turns out there's case-sensitivity built into the URL.

Not sure why that is happening. Could it be because of the version of GZDooM you are using? The game runs fine with older versions of GZDooM (e.g., v1.8.5)

Mayhap I spoke too soon. It seems that we are no closer to completion than we were in February when I started this thread. But it's not because we've been sitting on our thumbs and doing nothing. [Well, maybe some of that, too.] It's because the game has vastly expanded. Here is a summary, plagiarized straight from DooM Nexus:

"Paranoiac is a 2-hub game for GZDooM based on Paranoid. The first hub consists of 9 maps (including a secret map) in the familiar, "Earth" setting. The second hub consists of 3 maps in a "Xen" setting. The game features new weapons & enemies not seen in Paranoid. There are also 2 bonus maps set in the Half-Life universe, but with DooM enemies.

STATUS: Earth hub: Mapping on all maps (Maps10 through 18) is complete. Xen hub: Mapping on Map19 100% complete; Map20 45% complete; Map21 0% complete. Bonus Maps: Mapping on Map22 100% complete; Map23 20% complete. TITLEMAP 100% complete."

In addition, the game now features moving platforms, courtesy of GooberMan. In the Xen maps, naturally, they are floating/orbiting space islands (implemented using models). In one of the bonus maps they are levitating platforms. Plus all new music by Jeff Ligda, new weapons & enemies by DBThanatos, and new models by Enjay, Eruanna, and others.

In the immortal words of Paul Simon: "You know the nearer your destination, the more you're slip slidin' away."

But you're not here to listen to pithy lyrics from an old-timey song-writer. On to the screenshots:

I saw the name "Paranoiac" and assumed this would be like that Ao Oni mod, only for Paranoiac. This is much preferable, however. I like the idea of Half-Life things in Doom, it's like it's all coming full circle after Gabe Newell worked on Doom 95.

I tried to add some more pics, and I got an error message when I tried to add the 4th pic above (about 3 being the limit). But, oddly, it allowed me to add the 4th pic. Anyhoo, more pics can be seen at DooM Nexus.

@ grouchbag: Thank you. Your enthusiasm appears to be infectious, as I now have an overwhelming urge to go forth and make more progress.

Probably because you're using the forum's file attachment system, which does have significant limits on it. I recommend an external image hosting service like Imgur.

Wow, has so much time really passed since the previous announcement?
Regardless, I'm awaiting this with high expectations, regardless of how long that will be.
