Project Doomed (Normal, Slow & Ultra Slow!)

Post by Reisal »

DOWNLOADS:
Download @ ModDB
Download @ /idgames/
Download @ Mediafire - High quality version, about 220 MB. Processed with Merlin Vienna 128MB soundfont

VARIANTS:
Download True Doomed @ ModDB - Slow
Download Funeral Doomed @ ModDB - Very slow

I did some altering to Jay Reichard's "Project Doom" songs so they are closer to the original songs, as well as being slightly slower. The original Project Doom text file allows modification and reuse, btw. Reichard's originals can also be found on the ModDB description.

In this, I got all songs slowed down with both games' tunes having the "originalization" done (meaning instrument changes and left/right tuning)

Requires a source port that can parse MIDI files.

Confirmed ports working with this: ZDoom, GZDoom, Zandronum, Doom Retro, Chocolate Doom, PRBoom+

Old info/news on slow variant:

That doesn't even exclude Vanilla Doom (within MUS limits). The only port that doesn't is Doom95, but you'll be hard pressed to find someone that uses it unironically :P.

I felt too lazy to midi2mus all the tunes as the directory I have them in has multiple versions.

While we're on the subject, what is it that causes the crackling or very small skipping sounds in Jay's tracks in the MP3 format? Not sure if you've noticed it. It may be on purpose due to the way it was made MP3.

I'm not sure why but the MIDI files sounded fine, I kinda derped with Doom 2's intermission music by making the percussion tracks a bit too soft. Everything else sounds good tho.

Update to add video on top to demonstrate how the music sounds (your mileage may vary)

It likely has to do with me reworking the tracks with a variable bitrate instead of a constant one. The idea was to conserve space so I could burn them to data CDs - This was before I owned an MP3 player.

But as far as I know, nobody uses the MP3 files in their projects, and I'm actually kinda glad for that. Otherwise, projects like this might not exist. ;)

I also made a "high def" version in OGG format of the songs processed with a soundfont :)

I will post that one a bit later as it's over 200 MB.

Does that mean that these can actually work with vanilla dos doom? Or one geared towards it like the Doom Retro port?

Feel free to try, I have not even tried the original Doom, Boom or Chocolate Doom to see how it fares but it should work with some of those. I've only tested with ZDoom, Zandronum and GZDoom.

Finally got around to trying it with doom retro and it works fine. I did notice a little bit of stuttering though. Tracks sound pretty good. I like them a bit slower like you did. I did notice a little bit of stuttering though.
