Moderators
In my opinion, after the spam on the news forums, that we may need a few moderators on this site. However, some people think otherwise, so I set up this poll. So, what do you think?

Most people who participated in the "spamming" were generally good forum members who have committed no big sin. The high level of concern among some of us about this issue just doesn't make sense to me; it was a joke, no harm meant, it's over, Randy dealt with it in a calm manner as expected and it won't happen again.
The fact that some doomworld staff thought the news page fun was such a big deal that they had to make threats over it is a good example of why moderators aren't a good idea for a place like this which has flourished in the past without their interference.

I vote YES! No good forum can go without moderators! I remember a forum at a site called mWorld, which only had one admin. That forum was spammed, flamed, hacked, and overdriven to the point of having to delete it to save disk space and bandwidth. I saw some of the crap they posted on that forum before it was taken down, and it was pretty bad ("TAKE A LOOK AT MY LIPS THEY ARE FIFTYNINE FEET WIDE KISS ME"). Elect moderators - PLEASE!

it wasn't the news page itself, it was people bragging about it on the dw forums, behavior we don't encourage. granted no harm done with the recent 'fun', but I failed to find any humor in it at all, and it'd have been nicer if whoever had discovered the bug had simply deleted their post and emailed randy about it. props to randy for having a good deal of patience however, I'd have handled it differently I admit heheBiff wrote:Most people who participated in the "spamming" were generally good forum members who have committed no big sin. as for moderators on here, as I said before I don't think it's necessary, the zdoom forums are relativly small and there's little worry of spam and all that. of course forums (nor any part of the internet) aren't a democracy so it's not up to us anyway, so this poll isn't overly useful for anything aside from people saying "MAKE ME A MOD PLZ!!".

The point is that, up to now, this has not happened to that degree at zdoom forums. The "news" spam issue is over. It's been a "good" forum without moderators other than Randy. I'll bet he can make any adjustments needed regarding member permissions to post. Asking for moderators because of what has happened on another forum is not warranted.wildweasel wrote:I vote YES! As this is Randy's site and he's managed it fine along with a bit of member peer pressure up to now, I think you guys are a bit out of line in persisting about this issue. If Randy wants moderators, he'll go about it.

Well, there's also the fact that this is immediately a larger forum than the old one. More people are posting on here than the last one (if I remember right). Things may get more intense and Randy may not be able to handle all the pressure.Biff wrote:The point is that, up to now, this has not happened to that degree at zdoom forums.
