Atari Jaguar DOOM - WOLF3D Soundfont

Post by trevor0402 »

Here it is!

DOWNLOAD: https://www.mediafire.com/?fj2doo1ne284xm1

It includes all 127 instruments ripped with my Roland Sound Canvas SC-55 + the Atari Jaguar Drum Set ripped from Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM. Enjoy!

Pretty cool. Sounds interesting with 2.5d game music in general. Doom, DN3D, ROTT and the like.

FWIW here's an SNES soundfont. Credit goes to this guy.

This is just drums. If you load it in Doom, it only plays the drums and nothing else. Kinda weird sounding.

That's because it's not GM-compatible. That SNES soundfont includes some instruments like violin, bass, guitar, harp, voices, and drums, but it's not a GM-designed soundfont.

The Wolf3D soundfont on the other hand contains a full GM set + drums (129 presets. Viena Soundfont Editor shows that it contains 1 unused instrument sample.)

It is possible to load several soundfonts at once. FluidSynth can (look at how its "official" companion soundfont, fluid_r3, is split in two parts, one strictly for GM and one with additional GS stuff), and so can BASSMIDI and most other serious programs. I think even TiMidity++ can, but I've not tried.

So if you want the rest of the instrument, load the SNES soundfont ontop another soundfont.

Like this:

Code: Select all

fluid_patchset "Doom SNES (NEW).sf2"
fluid_patchset "SGM-V2.01.sf2"
?

Now, they must be in the same string, with separators, like this: fluid_patchset "SGM-V2.01.sf2;Doom SNES (NEW).sf2"
On Linux and Mac systems, use : instead of ; for the separator.

If you don't hear the SNES instruments, change the order around. I forgot if priority is given to first listed or last listed.

One would also consider renumbering the presets in the soundfont with Viena, so that they correspond with the GM instruments numbers (numbering the harp to the GM harp, the "guiat" [sic] to the dist/overdrive guitar and such). Though the number of instruments in that soundfont is quite small, they are pretty much all still used in the DOOM music more or less: Violin, 2 Bass guitars (pick and slap?), Dist/OD guitar, Harp (harp and UMB), Timpani (tambor-2), Synth Drum (tambor-1), Choir (vioce-1 [sic]), Synth Voice (vioce-2 and vioce-queee [sic]).

Thank you for mentioning that. I've been stuck unable to use my favorite combos until now.
