E2M4 - Deimos Lab Remake

Post by Guardsoul »

Hi guys!

What a long time without working on my own projects (Im always helping others and I dont have time for myself ). This time I want to show you what Im working on (the tittle says it, dont waste more time!). Its a custom remake of E2M4 - Deimos lab in the way that the TSoZD team is doing, I mean, not only recreating it with a modern style, also adding some more rooms like they were parts of the original map, a few more monsters (when I mean a few, its about 5 - 6 new monsters, nothing else).

Well, first beta is ready for the testing! There is a couple of things that should be done but there isnt nothing important, just some ambient sounds, some detail, etc...

IMPORTANT: To run this wad correctly you must use Doom2 IWAD (NOT DOOM!!). For better experience in game, choose sector lightning type "DOOM" if you are playing with OpenGL.

Now its the time for the bunch of screenies
Spoiler: Images
I´ll be waiting for some feedback.

Looks really nice! Probably one of my favorite level slots in the game because of the music and general atmosphere of the map.

I felt it was a little low on health (I finished UV with 9%) but despite that it was rather enjoyable.

Very nice map indeed, please make more like this one! I didn't find the map too hard, I didn't die at all during the first playthrough at UV and there was only one time my health dropped below 30%. I wasn't too thrilled about custom monsters, but at least you've used them sparsely. The ambient sounds were rather loud in some areas, but I guess you've made them like that intentionally.

Huge ass bump (I know...)

Good to see that you like it. Im gonna make some little touch-ups to the map like monster/ammo/health placement, decrease the volume of some sounds as Caleb13 metioned before, and so on but without breaking the original gameplay. New download link should be aviable in some hours.

Regards.

Wow! thanks for bumping this. Somehow I managed to miss this when it was first posted. I love this map. It's an excellent remake of E2M4 (possibly the best and most memorable map in Episode 2). I like how the map and progression is still very recognisable but it has really nice new features everywhere. Fantastic job. Well done.

I was also planning doing a remake of another E2 map like E2M1, E2M5 or E2M7 (maybe some day I will come with another remake if the TSoZD team doesnt finish his work before ).

Anyways, after playing this once again I noticed that the end room is below the par so Im gonna rebuild it from scratch and try to adjust it to the original one.

Really enjoyed my play-through of this one (despite running it with Doom instead of Doom 2 )! I especially liked the visuals and atmosphere of the map and wouldn't mind seeing other remakes with a similar treatment. Keep up the good work!
