[Monster]Grell

Post by NMN_Paul »

This is a monster I've posted in the Spriting Carnival thread, but that thread seems to be for unfinished sprites, so I'm reposting the >done< thing over here.
It's a sheet, anyone willing to use it gonna have to crop it and make separate frames. Hope it's not much trouble ;)

It's freeware.
Anyone willing to use it, just credit me.
Anyone willing to distribute it further (like some sprite resource webpage), by all means do so! :D

If it's not ok that I'm reposting this thing here, any mod let me know about it please.

FreeDoom could really use this for a Cacodemon if it's big enough.

Or a pain elemental, seeing as they don't have one yet.

You think so? Could someone please upload it to Freedoom then? Maybe they'll find it useful. I'm a bit busy atm with that Vore, and then I got some more work, and then some more work and then... :stuppor:

Nice to see a thread 'bout this guy. I've got DECORATE code for it, but ZDCMP2 gets it first. ;)

I'll post it up later when I make the finishing touches tomorrowish. Gonna see if I can use that nice n' handy A_RadiusGive to introduce some extra effects to his attack.

That's a cool looking sprite. I've always iomagined Grells with more of a beak than that but I really like the mouth because it makes it individual.

Was it entirely from scratch? I'm guessing yes because I don't recognise any of the bits but I am just asking because if any commercial game donated its bits to the sprite it won't be acceptable for FreeDoom.

On the subject of FreeDoom, Eriance and a few others have created a number of from-scratch sprites that would, IMO, be suitable to add to FreeDoom. Have the artists ever considered donating them to FreeDoom? It would be nice for FreeDoom to get closer to a full sprite set. ATM, FreeDoom isn't really much fun to play as a stand-alone game because of all the placeholders (and/or Blasphemer for that matter).

But Blasphemer's textures kick Freedoom's ass. ;)

Not much to add except this is a really neat looking enemy.

With some editing, I could turn it into the Parapsych (kinda like a less detailed eyeless Octabrain) from Duke Nukem: Zero Hour. If I ever get around to it, I'll share with you guys.

Nice one!
Kind of reminds me of those Tentaculats from "UFO2: Terror from the deep", I'm curious how it will behave :)

The D&D grell does have a beak, and a lot more tentacles.
Spoiler:
Damn, it's hard doing an image search on "Grell" without finding tons and tons of pictures of some pointy-toothed anime redhead.

Thank you much for nice comments Image

Now to answer some questions:
Xaser wrote:I've got DECORATE code for it, but ZDCMP2 gets it first.
I'll be honored if this was included in ZDCMP2 :)
Enjay wrote:I've always iomagined Grells with more of a beak
You're right. To be honest, I've noticed that when I took a look at the Grell after I was done with the sprite, kinda was doing it from memory while making it... I just named it "Grell" because I didn't have another witty name for it ;)
Enjay wrote:Was it entirely from scratch?
Yes, this one was done entirely from scratch.

On subject of Freedoom, I'd LOVE to help these guys out as Freedoom is popular and it's a shame it's so unfinished. I think that after I'm done with some stuffage I have going on at the moment (including one GENIuane request ;) ) I'll try to make some stuff for Freedoom and see what comes out.

On another note, I've donated this sprite to Openart and stamped it as "public domain". I hope that doesn't cross it out of Freedoom... I always make stuff for free over the internet, less someone requests it, then I won't post it.
Vader wrote:Tentaculats from "UFO2: Terror from the deep"
Yeah, those are D&D Grells actually ;)
Gez wrote:tons of pictures of some pointy-toothed anime redhead.
Yeah... :|

And one final note - the Vore requested by some people in the Sprite Carnival is almost done. I just need to cleany up the outline, some final anim tests and off it goes.

This is lovely! I'll contact Stilgar about including it in Blasphemer.
