Demon Spawner Dmflag

Post by Kate »

Could there be a dmflag to toggle the demon spawner on/off during deathmatch games? It gets kinda pointless fighting through fields of monsters only to have your opponent kill you...

What about -nomonsters? Or do you want monsters, but not spawned ones?

nomonsters doesn't work because the demon spawner doesn't count as a monster.

Well what do you know, I was about to make a post about this same thing, but somebody beat me to it! I tried playing Deathmatch on a level of mine that's supposed to have a Demon Spawner in Single Player so It won't be so pointless, but the Demon Spawner stayed in Deathmatch, so It got ultra-boring. There should seriously be a flag to prevent this.

How about working around this problem by having the demon spawner activated or deactivated by script, depending on game type? Or, just have a switch or walk-over line in a dm start location not normally accessed in single player, the switch or line deactivating the spawner.

Or, start the spawner as dormant (guessing this works) and just activate it when desired.

You can also have walls around the demon spawner, walls which lower to expose it for solo play but not for dm. That way you can handle it for vanilla doom wads.

Don't the singleplayeronly or dmonly flags work for the spawner?

Another work around - use a dehacked patch that makes the thing count towards the kill %, then -nomonsters will stop it appearing.

They should.
