New Doom Builder release (2.1.1.1466)

Post by CodeImp »

Doom Builder version 2.1.1.1466 is an official release. You can get it at http://www.doombuilder.com. Ofcourse it doesn't have everything you ever wanted yet (no sprites in classic modes, no media player integration, no getting laid) but it sure has a bunch of bugfixes and some small new features.

Oh please note: The old GZDoom Editing plugin is not compatible with the new version and we'll have to get a new unofficial build of the plugin for the new version.

Downloaded and installed. I'm still struggling to get to grips with the program due to my entrenched DeePsea use but everything seems to be very nice.

Silly question while I'm here (something that I haven't been able to figure out, even though it is probably obvious): If I load a WAD that has a number of maps within it, how do I switch from one map to another without closing and reloading the WAD?

You can't do that in the same window. But if you want to edit them all at the same time (?) then you can always open multiple instances of Doom Builder.

Heh, no, I don't want to edit them all at the same time. I just want to, say, open map01, make a little change to it, save, switch to map02, make a little change to it, save, switch to map03...

In DeePsea, shift-F2 opens a little dialogue that shows the leveles in the loaded WADs and allows you to switch to them without unloading/unloading anything else. (In fact, it shows all the levels including those in the resource IWAD but the PWAD loaded ones are shown in a different colour and also lets you browse the maps - although I never use that feature myself):
Spoiler:
I just wondered if there was a similarly easy way to switch levels in DB2. As far as I can tell, I have to close the current map loaded from the WAD/PK3 and then reload it but select a different level to open in the editor. Is that correct?

YES, this totally made my day. I hope development becomes more regular.

This really should have been included, any takers to hook us up?

No because I am not satisfied with the current state. Among other things, it is still buggy which make it hard to use.

Yes.

It would be nice if a similar step 'Edit Level' were in DB2, but I find it's easy enough, just one more step.

Fair enough. It's not a huge problem (well, it's not really a problem at all). I just expected there to be something like that available.

The way I do it is press ALT+F then press 1. This basically opens File menu and select the most recently loaded file. DB will then ask you which map you wish to load from the file (also which resources and game configuration, but those should already be correct as they are remembered the last time you saved the map)

Just a thought I had, is the GZDoom plugin really needed anymore? The features that it enables for visual mode (Just Slopes and 3D Floors right?) are available in software ZDoom now.
