[WIP] "Hell on Earth"

[WIP] "Hell on Earth"

This is a new mapping project I decided to try out as of a couple day ago.

My goal is to basically tell the same story as Doom 2 but with some maps and level-design that actually look and feel like they take place on a demon-infested Earth, as well as some more gory and horror-ish details (such as being able to see the corpses of Earth's inhabitants littering the streets).

At the moment, i've been working on and off on some textures, a title screen, and an early proof-of-concept map to showcase the textures and sprites, as well as the kind of atmosphere I want to convey.

For the record, this concept map is going to become an actual map in the final wad, I'm just not sure what number it's going to be.

Globe (for extracting the Terminator: Skynet resources, I modified one of those corpse sprites for the sprite in the screenshot)
Jimmy (for allowing me to use modify his boss sprite that I helped out with for the title screen)
TeamTNT (I used the wheel texture from Evilution for the bus texture)
3D Realms (for the original theater marquee that I modified, among a couple other resources)

Any ideas, suggestions, and feedback would be appreciated!

This sounds very interesting.

I suggest it contains 7-10 maps and each map to be unique in terms of setting, i.e, not all the maps take place in cities and such.

Edit: Also, If you may, consider map progression; the end of the previous map is the starting point of the next one.

If there's any way I can help let me know. Maps, sprites, sounds, etc.
I've kinda wanted to do a project like this myself.

Looks good so far, but...

Not trying to sound pedantic or anything, but you really do need more screenshots.
It's ok if you've haven't finished the proof-of-concept map you were talking about, which is the general theme I got from you're post, but just remember:

More Screenies = More Downloads.

Actually, one of the only things I actually liked about Doom 2 (as opposed to Doom 1, which I love) was the level with all the flickering lights and the tiny crate maze. I can't remember which one that is, but it was the only level I happened to enjoy. I didn't really like Doom 2.

As for that screenshot, if you can, add something like a traffic light, or more detail in any case. (that scene looks a bit empty, IMO)

Yeah, like I said, this is in REALLY early stages. That map is currently sort of a grounds to experiment with hellish urban scenery and the like, and then it will become an actual map.

The reason this thread exists so early in development is just for the purpose of feedback, ideas, and the like that may help out. :D

The blood stain around the dead body looked infinitely better before this update.

There wasn't any bloodstain, it was just a part of the sprite. And yeah, the blood needs to be darker, didn't realize that until it was in the actual map. It looks sorta like strawberry jam at the moment. :P
