GunLabs

Check it out - here's the "successor" to the Doom Armory, renamed GunLabs at the suggestion of Xaser (who also slightly edited my logo, which I rather like). Doom Armory's original purpose was for reviews of weapon mods. That purpose is no longer needed, so GunLabs' purpose is to provide tutorials and points of reference for up and coming Doom modders for all things gun related.

The content on GunLabs at the moment is a bit threadbare, I'm aware (only one tutorial, one retrospective under Weasel's Mods, and no articles), and Blogger might not be the absolute best choice for a site like this, but I feel it's the easiest for me to work with.

For an example of the kind of content I hope to eventually have on here, check out this introductory Decorate weapons tutorial. I hope GunLabs eventually becomes the go-to place for budding modders to learn how to do things.

Perhaps a new how to sprite weapons tutorial would be useful for this?

I will certainly accept submissions, if you're offering. I don't consider myself good enough with graphics to write one myself (the overwhelming majority of my graphics still use others' as a base).

I've added a second tutorial to GunLabs. I'd appreciate feedback on it.

The link to Irfanview is outdated or something, but other than that it's a pretty good tutorial. You also could let the reader know that what's below the status bar line won't be seen in-game.

Unless you move it upward with Offset(), which is one of the better reasons to leave the extra image space on.

Odd request: Would it be possible to turn those links that we've already clicked on, red or something, instead of gray? It makes it look like regular non-link text.

Awesome tutorials, by the way. Got quite a bit of great info from them.

That'll be an easy fix.

Which makes me think, perhaps a section on it's own that contains links to useful/alternative programs?

Actually a pretty good idea, though at the moment I really only have links to the programs I use (GoldWave, Audacity, Irfanview, GraphicsGale, GIMP, SLADE). Suggestions for other programs, perhaps?

What about including XWE, Wintex and SLUMPED into that list?

Also, will you eventually add those old reviews from your old Armory site to the GunLabs?

Is there any reason why they're better for the job than SLADE?

Probably not; I didn't archive the text of them, and they died with the phpbb2 forum that I had been using for the Armory's CMS. GunLabs isn't for reviews, anyway...

I rather like the GunLabs site - it's easy to read but still looks nice. The tutorials are pretty good as well. Good Job :D

Alternatives, I suppose. Perhaps some people out there like using those other programs?

I can't really think of any programs I use other than the ones you listed, the exception being Paint.NET. Winrar and/or 7zip?
