VAPORWARE: Eternity map pack announcement!

Greetings! Vaporware is an ambitious map pack currently in development for the Eternity Engine by a team of well-known and experienced Doom community members.
Our project development team currently includes 5hfifty, Agent Spork, Esselfortium, Julian Hope, Quasar, SoM, Tango, and Vader, and some unnamed others may become involved later on as well.
In addition to a set of beautiful new maps in a variety of themes and styles, Vaporware also features new monsters, lots of custom resources, and a new ogg-format soundtrack, including music by Julian Hope of RTC-3057 fame.
Vaporware makes use of a number of Eternity Engine sourceport features that have yet to be seen in any completed Doom projects, including linked portals, allowing for complex true 3D constructs and layouts to be designed.
For more information (and bigger screenshots!),
check out the Vaporware project site!
(Note: I'm assuming off-topic is the right place for this? It's a Doom project, but not a ZDoom project. Mods, move it to projects or another subforum if you see fit. If not it can stick around here.)
edit: Thanks for moving it to General!

Personally I would prefer to see this moved to the projects section - that way it does not shrink into oblivion if nobody decides to give the topic attention after 2 weeks.

But that's just me.
This looks like some exciting stuff! I can't wait to see it.

Amazing. I will download Eternity just to play this map pack.

Same. :)
It's amazing what linked portals can do. Any limitations in Doom's map format just sort of melt away when you see stuff like Vader's shots of roman looking ruins.

Finally you've let people know about this, essel.
Anyway, i'll check the site.

I especially like the first shot, is that spaceship bridge or something?

I can't help but think "KDiZD" when I see those artsy desaturated screenshots.

Well it's not exactly a ZDoom project. I know there's precedent for GZDoom and/or Skulltag projects, but these ports are kinda family.

Move it to General, otherwise it could be lost into the Off-Topic prune function.

Moved, as I also do not want to see this disappear. As others have stated, I too will download Eternity simply to play this map pack. The screenshots look wonderful!
EDIT: How many maps are you planning on including in this project?

The artsy desaturated screenshots in the forum post were done at the last second when I was making the post and I figured that people would be much more likely to bother clicking through to the website and see the full-size shots and other info if there was some sort of visible teaser in the post.
BoldEnglishman, there's currently no set map count goal. I would say probably somewhere in the range of 10 or so, but it could be less (or more). It's hard to say.
And thanks for moving the thread

No problem. How much work has been done so far, or timewise how long has this project been around?

Can't 3d floors do a lot too? However they can't hide the automap, which can be a biggie, and they can slow down the game (I haven't experienced it yet). Portals are probably safer and faster, but 3dfloors are easier to add. I don't care that they need a 3d engine.
EDIT: nice to see this project finally being announced and getting a website. Maybe now it's starting to move up?

Many of the uses of portals in these maps would be extremely difficult, or impossible, to replicate using 3D floors. This is more than just having a floating bridge or two somewhere in the map, these are entire areas that completely overlap each other.
The project officially started around April 2008. Interest in the project has had its ups and downs, and for quite a while I was working under the impression that there was a pretty good chance I was going to have to just release my maps on their own, but then things suddenly picked up and the rest of the team started to all work on it and really amazed me

Impressive, yet innaccessible for me.
And whilst the linked portals stuff would be very difficult to emulate with 3D floors, patience would allow it to be perfectly possible. There are almost definitely differences in behaviour that will make linked portals win through though, as long as the enemies can't see you through the floor or whatever.
