GEARS OF WAR - ZDoom TC (DEAD; UPLOADED ALL WORK- LAST POST)

INTRO:
Hey, guys! What if the 3rd-Person action from Gears of War was added to Doom? If this seems impossible to you, it isn't! I've done some work (just to see how this TC would work out) and it seems promising.

TEAM WANTED:
> Spriters
> Programmers
> Texture Artists

If you want to join, you'll need to be experienced in whatever you choose (from above). Remember, Gears of War is a great-looking game, so we'll need to make a great-looking WAD!
Programmers must be familiar with the coding behind Doom and ZDoom, Spriters can make use of screenshots from the web or the PC version of Gears of War (although custom sprites are heavily preferred - more inforation for Spriters towards the end of this post), and Texture Artists must be capable of making quality textures (whether they're rips or from scratch, they gotta look good on the Doom Engine :) ).

DOWNLOAD:
Below is the link to a Concept Pack. It comes with a WAD and a Gears-esque song I wrote.
The WAD includes an edited chaingun sprite (which I made to look like Marcus Fenix holding the Lancer Assault Rifle from GOW). It's a pretty rough edit and I don't intend on using any of this early stuff for the final thing, but it was made to prove that Doom can be a 3rd-Person game.

OTHER INFORMATION:
If you have any ideas, or you'd like to work on this project, post everything you make on this thread.
We can then put everything we've made together into one WAD (an experienced WAD-editor user is needed for this, so that the codes for every resource don't interfere w/eachother and cause a crash in ZDoom :( ).

I did say I'd prefer custom sprites... These can include sprites from scratch (if you can do this, be my guest!) or sprites based off of an existing creation (in other words, feel free to use bases). If you find a cool monster from another game, add to it to make a GOW character or a GOW enemy! You can also make objects, decorations, obstacles, pick-ups, and Player sprites! Size is not much of an issue, but I ask you not to make high-res sprites. Keep them pixelated; if the original Doom can handle 'em, they're perfect!

I am planning to design some levels for this WAD (in the future), but first, I'd like to get all of the resources taken care of...

If you're a bit of an amateur or you have some rough work you're not sure about, please don't hesitate to post it! You never know what can happen! Any work for this WAD is welcome, as long as you truly try! :D I'll do my best to find something for ya!

This alone made me laugh. Although I've yet to play Gears of War, I have a pretty good guess that it wouldn't be hard at all to replicate in ZDoom.

Blade3327, before you start asking for help on your new mega-cool-and-whatnot project, make sure you have something to show first (screenshots, map downloads, etc). Keep in mind we've already seen thousands of upcoming projects that actually never got done.

This won't be authentic unless the palette has 224 shades of grey in it.

Psh, this is totally an exaggeration.

Gears of War has way less than 32 colors.

Well, I've got a downloadable version of the Chaingun sprite and a song. If you want some sort of example, it's there for ya :) . Once again, I'm not actually gonna use the sprite for the final thing, since it's a total prototype.

So far, that's all I've done. I might also compose some more music for the game, or we could use actual music from GOW.

Believe me, if we have the proper team, I'll definitely see to it that this WAD (or at least its resources) is finished. It should look pretty cool.

I've been planning this for quite a while, but I haven't been able to do anything about it until I joined the ZDoom forums.

Is anyone interested? :?:

why not just play gears of war instead of a badly imitated fan recreation in something inferior? its not like it has any real innovation to replicate. Make something original. Leave lame copy-paste wads like these to the corbachus, darkexodus and icemans.

With all this effort you put into making graphics, putting together WADs etc... it would have been better off spent making an original mod.

What, can't you do anything yourself?

May I ask why the wad file itself is nearly 4 megs in size when it only contains four images? In fact, I used XWE's wad clean-up feature and was able to reduce the size down from 4 megs to 56 kilobytes.

I also like how the chaingun replacement is a badly ripped sprite of Marcus. This is truly the beginnings of an epic project.

Um... guys? I already said that the Chaingun sprite was just a test. I don't really know why the file size was so big. I tried to clean it up, but I dunno what happened...

As far as the concept of the WAD goes, this is technically an original project. No one has made a GOW TC for Doom, yet. Plus, it would be kinda cool... There are actually a lot of well-known TCs out there, so I don't understand what the problem is...

I can do some sprite and graphic designing, but I don't know how to do everything. That's why there are people out there who look for mappers for their games.

There are some innovation possibilities, too. The active reload system would be fun to have in an old-school game. With some cool environments and ZDoom's capabilities, the GOW WAD would look pretty cool.

I also said I would use edited or from-scratch sprites, instead of rips. We could make some lighter, more colorful sprites (suitable for Doom) somewhat like the image here (this is just a reference for color http://www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-con ... ic-big.jpg) What I uploaded was a concept prototype. If the downloadable test WAD looked bad, I agree with you! It's just a test for the 3rd-Person view!

Is there anyone who wants to work on this, at all?

I suppose I'll say it again; does anyone here know what "constructive criticism" is? Because by the gods, it seems like the only person here that does is Marty. Jeez...

How in the Hell do you constructively criticise nothing?

Gears of War should be left to the people who KNOW how to make Gears of War, and that is Epic Games. Now if you want, you can make something that's in the style of Gears of War, but right now it just seems like you're trying to take advantage of an existing fanbase to cover your own shortcomings.

By the way, using third-person graphics in the place of a first-person weapon isn't the way to do it. Why not use ACS to do a third-person camera and give the player's weapon a lasersight so they can get a somewhat reasonable idea where his shots are going?
