Menu Bug

Post by Kate »

I could've sworn I posted about this bug in this forum, but I can't find my post anymore. Oh well, I'll just start a new topic...

Anyway, I found out how to reproduce the menu bug I was having a while ago:

First start up ZDoom and start a new game. Then, hit escape and tidle simultaneously (or at the same time for those without a dictionary). If done right, it should cause the console to appear behind the menu. Then go to Options->Customize Controls and hit enter on a control. The cursor should now be stuck (as if you were defining a key) but you can still move it. Now if you back out of the menu and open it again, the cursor will be fixed and you'll be unable to move it. Now bring down the console (tidle) and hit escape to close the menu and type "quit"(without quotes) into the console to exit ZDoom since at that point you'll be completely unable to use the menu.

How do you do that? If I press these 2 keys simultaneously either one of the following things happens:

1. The console appears and disappears
2. The menu opens normally

I can't manage to open both at the same time.

uhm... I can get both to appear at the same time and do the locked-moving-customize-cursor thing... but besides being unable to define a key everything seems okay i.e. I can go in and out of the menu...

How you figured out how to recreate that... I don't even wanna know.

Anyway, I can confirm everything you said. Once you have attempted to set one of the controls, the menu goes into its funky mode. However, if you have the console down behind the menu--which, at this point, no longer needs to be simultaneous, but can simply be achieved by pulling down the console while the menu is up--the menu works fine for most other screens. All the true false settings, and chose from a list settings work fine, it's only the control menu (because of the "add your own value" aspect of it) that has problems. The glitch carries over to a new game if one is started, the only way to clear the glitch is to restart zdoom.

Forget it, I'm not good with words today, so I made you all some vids:
Sorry they're in such low-res, I'm delusional and thought if I used the small res it might stay under the upload quota... haha Maybe if it were 1 frame.... <---dummy.

Anyway, two takes for you:
1. http://www.mtsu.edu/~srh2n/menubug.avi
2. http://www.mtsu.edu/~srh2n/menubug1.avi
They'll be up for a few days.

Completely by accident.

Anyway this is the bug that I was having with 47, but for some reason rather than happening while the console was down like it is here, it was happening at random. It stopped randomly doing this at around version 52, though I don't really know why.
