Weird bug

Post by mephisto »

Use IDCLIP to go into that high water area in the start, the result is VERY impressive. I have never seen anything like this, and the effect is very cool. Take a look!

Impressive, yes.

Bug, I don't think so.

Stuff like this can easily happen if you abuse some features of the engine.

I haven't quite worked out how or why this happens, but this effect has been around for ages. It was even in BOOM before Zdoom. I think it might be something like if you set the underwater view to have the same flat on the ceiling and the floor, you get an infinite horizon sort of effect under the water. Maybe there is more to it than that, but I don't think it is a bug, and I have certainly played maps that intentionally show the effect.

Being lazy and not actually looking at the level in an editor, I assume there's a sky being used somewhere, which is actually *meant* to create that.. very unique and weird effect. It's documented in the original BOOM TransferHeights docs, I just don't think it's ever really been used.

That's exactly what's going on.
