Night of the Homeless

Post by Kinsie »

Image
The homeless, bums and other such dregs are rising against their fiancially-solvent masters and taking back what's perhaps not actually but what they consider to be rightfully theirs! Your aim is simple: Survive as long as possible, to give the news networks something to cover.

Image
You'll find yourself plonked down in some sort of enviroment, usually urban, that starts as empty but soon has weapons and powerups spawning, and the homeless of the title crawling out from among the cracks. They're unarmed, but they hit hard. However, they're often more concerned with each other than you.

Image
Naturally, their numbers grow very quickly - you have no hope whatsoever of destroying them all, so you may as well take as many as you can with you.

Image
This isn't to say you're defenseless though - weapons and powerups scatter themselves across the streets, ranging from the traditional shotguns and grenades to more exotic tricks, like the Repulsor, Jetpack, Reflex Booster and everyone's favorite, the Instant Army.

Image
Currently the basic gameplay is done, and I just need to make maps and add on to the current features. This is somewhat tricky because I'm using a terribly old Voodoo3 card, which causes Doom Builder to like to play such games as "Crash the video card driver when Kins least expects it". I hope to at least release a one-level beta in the next couple of months, for bored mappers with nothing better to do to look at with a hint of amusement.

Thoughts? Ideas? Abuse? I'm listening.

Pretty much - zombies are overused so I decided to take a sillier route.

What an inane concept. I hold much more respect for my current and former homeless friends than small-minded fuckwits like you.

Try living on streets and talk to some homeless people - you might be surprised at how intelligent and switched on some of them are.

I find it odd, and perhaps offensive, that people would take such a bizarre and retardedly stupid concept for my actual beliefs towards such people, and as a political comment of sorts.

Would I get this sort of reaction if the enemies were well-to-do suits from Silicon Valley? No. I'd probably be cheered on for sticking it to MIKKKRO$$$OFT in some unspecificied fashion.

When you describe such people as the "dregs" and create such a WAD, I have little else to go on. Despite what you say, I still think you have little sympathy or understanding of the homeless - I find it hard to believe someone that does would devote their time to creating such a such thing.

I wouldn't cheer you on. If you created such a thing, I would assume you'd either be some sort of hypocrite who uses Microsoft products and can't be bothered finding alternatives or some sort of Linux/Mac/<insert other OS> zealot.

I have full sympathy for such people. I just thought about making a zombie survival mod and was starting a playthrough of Strife at the time, so I gave it a silly skin using Strife sprites. Thinking of this as some sort of deep-rooted hatred of what's basically the same as you or I but in a bad circumstance is about as stupid as getting up in arms at Kaiser's COMMUNITY IS FALLING mods because the mspainted monsters eyes are slighter further apart or closer together than normal and thus making fun of the intellectually disabled THAT MONSTER, or at Enjay's Marine Assault because of a complete disrespect for military servicemen HOW DARE HE, or at any mod released in the past 14 years for it's blatant anti-zombie propaganda.

At worst, you can just change the sprite definitions in the DECORATE.

Wow since when did the forums lose their sense of humour. You could beat the crap out of the beggars in strife, what's the big deal?

Don't let everyone else get you down, this looks fun. I was going to this sort of thing with zombies.

The 'big deal' is that it is very poor taste. Joke or not - this has a high chance of being misunderstood.

Well if it is i'm sure it won't take long to change them into zombies fairly quickly. Although that's kinda what they look like anyways.

Heh, just show some breasts in the game and you'll have people trying to ban Doom now.

This is how stupid the whole arguement is.

I do not agree with or support this idea for a wad. As k0da said, "Try living on streets and talk to some homeless people - you might be surprised at how intelligent and switched on some of them are." Homeless people are usually normal people who are just down on their luck. My father was a homeless man at one point, but now he owns a hundred thousand dollar house (!owns!). So the idea that homeless people would mass riot is completely asinine.

The idea that bad people (maybe prisoners?) escape and decide to riot is a good one though. Just replace the baddies with the real dregs of society, and not poor people. Continue, but with those thoughts in mind.
