Who's the scariest mopster?

Post by PaganRaven »

If my topic title said toughest monster, clearly Cyberdemon and/or Mastermind would get the win easily. But as you can all see, it says scariest. My vote goes to the Arch-Vile. That thing gives me the creeps. He looks like a psychotic mutant demon from hell! Of course, that's what he is, but he pulled off the look successfully. I haven't actually had nightmares about the thing, but he makes me lose sleep sometimes. I know there was a really scary pic on the internet. gimme a sec to find it.

EDIT: Like seriously I remember this REALLY scary doom picture on the internet it had a red background and it looks like someone wearing a really scary mask of an evil creature but i cant find it now ='(

EDIT 2: Okay I found the picture but it's not actually the full-size image. The picture is in the picture. It's the black and red one at the top right.

As a child, I was always afraid of the Arch Vile and the Cyberdemon... when I walked into a dark room (in real-life, not in Doom), I'd quickly try to find the switch to turn on the lights because I was always reminded of the Arch Vile...

I was like, 10 years old then I think...

Yeah I can see scariest mopster instead of monster.

In Doom? Some of Doom64 monsters are quite scary if you ask me (pain elementals and barons most notably, but Cyberdemons suck there).

In video games? I still get goose bumps from the infamous 'white' (omg racism  ) head-biting off zombie from RE1.

Also, PaganRaven, are you sure you're not BPRD's brother?

Baphomet (the final boss in Doom 2) used to scare the shot out of me. I can't even remember when I first played Doom, I was so young :stuppor: and his level music creeps me out. When my brother plays it in cakewalk I can't tell when he stops because it's so quiet and resides in the back of my head and creeps me out at night. :sadno:

@Ni-Mi-Ni: I can see where you're comnig from with that last bit. From what I've seen, any opinion polls on Doom (at DW, which I do looks at occaisionally) will come from him.

@Thread: Revenants surprising me with a scream in the ear is the closest you'll get to scaring me in doom. This game looks far too unrealistic to scare me, and I'm surprised it can scare anybody else, TBH.

As for other games, I'm yet to be properly scared by a game. Yes Doom 3 can make me tense, and various games can make me jump, but to feel fear in the face of a game monster is an unfamiliar notion for me.

Personally I think the US box for Ultimate Doom looks better. Oh, and my copy of Ultimate Doom came with the most awesome poster ever. :P
