[WIP] HeXen: Eternal Nightmare

Post by Conmeister »

NOTICE: With permission from Taurustar, This mod continues the core essence of an former project named HeXen: The Land of the Serpent Riders that was stolen and taken over by an individual with the “forked“ mod (that still exists). Aside from any further ramblings, This mod retains the core nature of Hexen with new enemies, new levels as a fully fledged mapset, balance changes and a few new mechanics.

Introduction
HeXen Eternal Nightmare is a mapset for Hexen, it aims to have 5 hubs with their own set of themes while using GZDoom’s enhanced editing features with modified gameplay, Deathkings of the Dark Citadel style difficulty (except some aspects that were bullshit) and some of other things inspired by Hexen II. This mapset is currently in W.I.P and things are subject to change.

Story
Long ago, The Chronicle of Deeds tell that a looming darkness have fallen across the worlds of Parthoris, Cronos and Thyrion. These worlds were conquered by the Serpent Riders consisting of three demonic siblings named D'Sparil, Korax and Eidolon. Until in the wake of their reign of terror, they were eventually defeated by the hands of mortal heroes from each three worlds. After the fall of Eidolon, an evil sorcerer named Praevus took over the lost continent of Tulku, managing to trap the souls of the Serpent Riders, using them as slaves. Eventually, Praevus was defeated as well, the souls of the Serpent Riders were set free onto the void for parts unknown, wondering if they're truly gone for good...

A decade or so has passed. Parthoris, Cronos and Thyrion are still rebuilding their torn worlds ever since the Serpent Riders have wrought destruction upon these worlds. Other lands are slowly being liberated but not as easily from under the heels of the Serpent Riders, conquered before the invasion of Parthoris and then the rest. However, from the deepest corners but darkest corners of this universe, a further evil remains, a single mysterious individual who took advantage of this peace to not only increase their own power but tirelessly prepare to bring the Serpent Riders back from the void. Another invasion is imminent, but, not only that it will cause another calamity but it also may threaten the stars of this multiverse as a whole.

Until after a month of quiet tension, as soon the heroes travel back to Winnowing Hall, that fateful day has come. Not knowing if it's the old or new foes, your journey into the Oblivion begins...

You know, I wondered what the hell was going on with the addition of the anime fanfiction OCs to the original. I guess a change in management would do it.

Keeping an eye on this!

Gonna be honest, I forgot about another site to post images for any UK citizens that can see by the time of posting this thread at midnight. I haven't figured out how to deal with that or know how to, yet.

You mean characters from Final Fantasy series? Yeah, it had several of them, especially airships as one level in that "forked" project. Whatever else was done to it, it just doesn't feel like HeXen anymore which it really grind my gears and it still does every time I look back every now and then. That being said, someone else taking over the original project in the right hands and revive it was the best course of action to ensure it's legacy and something that deserves better than this...

Some progress has been made. Thanks to a recent release of HeXen Extended - New Classes by NeoWorm, the Sidhe class is nearly completed. It's missing a few things here and there before I call it done but, I have been debating about what should the starting weapon be for the Sidhe class.

Should it start with...
  • The Elven Wand (ranged)?
  • The Ironshod Staff (melee)?
Keep in mind that each class will have 2 more weapons that uses blue and green mana + 1 all class that uses gold mana (ultimate weapons as well). I'd like to hear your thoughts about it before I wrap it up.
