I read somewhere a loooooooong time ago that Doom 1's first stage music(e1m1) is originally a music composed by the band Pantera.
Is this true? If yes...what's the name of the song?

No, it's Metallicas No Remorse. However, I believe there are 3 levels that have Pantera and two that have Slayer. Could be wrong though. The list is somwhere here...

This is not true. All the doom music was composed by a guyt called Bobby Prince.
Bobby parodied a lot of classic thrash metal of the time for the music of Doom:
Doom Music:
E1M1 - Master of puppets by Metallica (Its metallica, not Pantera... some people might want to hurt you for getting the two mixed up

)
E1M4 - Rise by Pantera (not many people notice this)
E2M1 - Master of Puppets by Metallica again
E2m9 - Mouth for War by Pantera (Not many people notice this one either...)
Doom 2 music:
D_Shwan - South of Heaven by Slayer
D_Romero - This Love by Pantera
D_Ampie - Them Bones by Alice in Chains
D_Adrian - Angry Chair by Alice in Chains
I don't see this as a bad thing... kind of a tribute to good metal artists of the time

. I beleive id originally wanted a fast metal sound track, but Bobby didn't think that woud be apropriate to great a good and tense mood... he suggested that there needed to be some ambience in there too (and rightly so!). My guess is that Bobby knew very little about fast Thrash metal, so he did some research and borrowed some of the ideas from a few of the tracks he listened too

. Bobby is a blatent blues composer anyway

Thanks for the fast replies.

The only one I recognized was "Them Bones" by Alice in Chains as I played "Barrels 'o Fun" in Doom 2. That music ownz even in sucky MIDI format...hehe.

I always thought Bobby Prince just ripped off a few tracks. I mean, if you listen to his stuff in Duke Nukem 2, one of the level songs sounds exactly like "Skin of My Teeth."

Ha! I knew Rise and Mouth for War were the songs, I just couldn't remeber the levels. Gotta love pantera
And, Enjay's link says E1M1 is Metallica's No Remorse(like I said), however when I play it on my guitar, sounds a HELL of a lot like Master of Puppets.

No, it's AC/DC - Big Gun

Not all the music that "inspired" Bobby Prince is thrash metal. AC/DC certainly isn't, for example

Heh, Ling is wrong with E3M8. It doesn't really sound much like Slayer's Silent Scream. More like S.O.D's "Sargent D And The SOD"..
Also, map16, or map10 or whatever is strikingly similar to Mandatory Suicide by Slayer.
