The Sixth Extinction [WIP]

Post by En_Ami »

Hey all,

I was a big doom fan back in the mid nineties and about a year or so ago i rediscovered it and got hooked again. Feeling creative I thought i'd try a hand at mapping. I tried making a few maps last summer and began a project I worked on and off until I finally had a full map done.

I was wondering what other people thought of it but few of my friends still play computer games, much less an old one such as Doom...so I came here in hopes that after playing my map some of you could tell me what you think/give me suggestions.

Its a little rough around the edges but I tried making it as interesting as possible. My motivation was to make an environment that was very dynamic that would react to both the player's presence, as well as evolving on its own over time. The goal of the gameplay was to make something between the original half-life and doom3.

Before playing it I suggest reading the text file as i've incorporated gameplay elements not typical of Doom; such as half-life style health stations and objects you can push by moving into them. If you do get a chance to try it please let me know what you think as I am a novice mapper who is interested in improving his skill! Thanks!

I didn't know where else to host it so I hope you guys don't mind waiting 45 seconds

Hi En_Ami, it's kind of an unwritten rule around most modding forums that if there are no screenshots, very few will want to download your mod... there are several places where you can upload pictures for free - try PhotoBucket or ImageShack...

I downloaded it and it was a really good level. I like how everything was changing as you progressed. I especially liked the raising water in the engine room and the jet you get to shoot from. A couple things I noticed that could be fixed were the door tracks where the red key is and near the marine that talks to you. Most of the doors were fine but it is important to always double check that the tracks are lower unpegged. Speaking of the marine, his text goes by way to fast to read. I would suggest to slow it down or divide up his sentences more. Aside from those minors things it was a very good level. :D

A really nice map for a novice mapper (that's how you defined yourself :) )
There were some texture misaligning and some doortracks without the Lower Unpegged flag, as Lord_Z noticed...
Otherwise it has a pretty good atmosphere and gameplay.
Nice map... :D

Gave this a quick spin - interesting WAD! A lot of parts surprised me and actually made me jump! I can see you were inspired by Doom 3 and/or Silent Hill, especially with the morphing scenery... very surreal indeed. :)

I accidently stepped into that nukage shower and died (where the first Cybie battle is) and I forgot to save my progress. :( I'll try it some more later...

the solution for situations like this is, console: god, resurrect

then goto a safe place and turn god off.

This WAD was very interesting. The problem I have with this wad was the water issues. In the Cyberdemon fight, the water hurted you; yes, I know there was a radiation sign, but I still believe that water shouldn't hurt you. After you killed the Cyberdemon, the water rises in the Engine room (I think) maze. That water isn't swimmable (you sunk to the ground), so I didn't really enjoy that experience. Besides that, a fun WAD to play.
