RAZE and GZDoom | for a LAN party?

Post by Tormentor667 »

Hello together,

me and my friends having LAN parties for the past 2 years again, playing mostly classics like Counterstrike, Quake, Starcraft and Command & Conquer. Lately we came to the question what about all those great 3D egoshooters like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D and Blood and if it is possible to play them on a LAN... well, they got to the right person I'd say.

Now the only thing that I wonder is: What's the best way to set up these games for a LAN party with GZDoom and RAZE? Frontends? Tips? Any ideas on how to do it correctly?

Looking forward to some help here,
best regards,
Torm

Multiplayer is currently "DAYOR" (Do At Your Own Risk) for Raze. I'd recommend sticking to GZDoom.

Networking on a LAN is the same as internet except you don't need to bother with port forwarding or IP translation.

host: gzdoom -host 3 -iwad <name> -file <whatever>
other: gzdoom -join 192.168.0.<whatever> -iwad <same> -file <same list>

Wait, what really? I thought netcode in Raze is 100% not working at all?

Some games apparently work some don't, and they likely each have their own way of setting up as well. It's possible none work at this point. The multiplayer code was never intentionally removed as far as I know - just not maintained. It was a seen as a feature with absolutely no priority right now (at least until the main things that need to be done are done).

There is no multiplayer support right now. A lot of work is needed to make it work and this won't happen unless we get another developer willing to implement it.

Yeah that's what I thought. I vaguely recall trying to start Raze with -host and -join and it outright just crashed at startup.
